I had the same thing and it was the seven wire connecting block under the tank. the connector was warm after a run and i could see the plastic was stained from the heat. It was an easy fix to cut out the plug and resolder all the wires and tape them up.
Ok. I pulled the tank to take a peek. The main connector from the ignition switch has a white wire with a blue stripe. Its almost melted in half inside and outside the connector. I'm guessing this is the problem? Should I pull the wires and use a butt connector on them?
Fixed. Pulled the wires out of the connectors and re-connected outside. Runs like a champ. Now..... Order the kit before my switch burns out. Thank you guys SOOOO much for the help. Without the forum I would still be scratching my head wondering what was wrong.
That is the new style plug installed in the update kit.
the question is did you bike come with it or did it have the update kit installed.
Easy to tell it that plug wired completley to the guages or is it crimped on a few inches after the plug. if its crimped on its not the original. if it is part of the harness then well I suspect the updated plug is not much better then the out dated one
There were no wires spliced as far as I could tell. Everything looks completely factory under the tank. Been riding for a couple days now with no problems. Keeping my fingers crossed that the eb kit comes in before I have any more problems.
