Dealership Problem - Need Your Advice

I think they should replace it as well. Especially when they forced you to buy the tires from them. If they don't have the proper tools and training to do the job then they shouldn't do it.

I don't trust a dealership to do anything, but there are some things I just prefer not to do. When I was younger I tore into everything, fixed everything and often made my own parts. Now, I just don't have the interest in doing so. When I go to the dealership I just am afraid they will not do the same kind of work I would do. It goes back to the old saying....Be the job big or small, do it well or not at all.....if the job is once begun, never finish till it's done.

That whole "you must buy tires from us" is such a load. I had one shop tell me that, so I pulled up tire cost on my phone and said, "sure, match that price and I am in." They declined, and I took my business elsewhere.

I feel strongly enough about this that I bought my own machine so I don't have to deal with this kind of crap. However, I DO understand (having purchased the machine and used it to mount tires) that there is a cost in not only material but also labor and capital so a dealer will likely never be able to match online prices or do the change over at a (what I would consider) reasonable cost. Glad you got it sorted

See, I think there is a very easy way for them to do this. Charge the customer, say $45 per tire to mount and balance a tire you got there, or $65 for a tire you bring in.

Eazy Pezy.

My dealer will match most internet prices, but he has no problem mounting whatever you bring in, but he does charge more if they are not his.

See, I think that is fair. Much better than losing business.

Just to give some pricing.......My dealer gave me a price on a tire that was roughly $30 more than the cheapest price I found on the Internet. They charge $85 to remove the tire from the bike, change the tire, balance it and reinstall the tire. I found that to be a fair price overall.

I paid $105 to have the tire removed from the bike locally, change and balance the tire, reinstall the wheel on the bike and change the brakes pads out. The tire cost me $148. In the end....it cost me about the same as the dealership quoted me. With that said, my dealer is almost two hours away so I saved myself the trip. Most dealers charge more if you bring your own tire because they are not making anything on the tire to help out with their profit margin. In my opinion, I think that is fair.

They absolutely should replace the wheel they damaged with a new one. The fact that they damaged it and then didn't bother to tell you says a lot for the integrity of the dealership. I'd be looking for a different one. Not easy to find, I know.

I got into the habit of bringing a spray bottle of window cleaner in with me when I pick up a tire. Then before we pay them I ask for a clean rag. We do this little song and dance routine right out in the open so other customers can watch. I have never had to use there rag or my window cleaner they get my point and take the tire back and clean it. If I take the hole bike in I just block the entrance way and repeat the same above. works every time.
