Cruiser Motorcycle Mentality

Horsepower is like *****size; there is no such thing as too much you may never use all that you've got, but it sure feels good knowing that you've got it in your pocket, available to whip it out and use it anytime you want to

A good example of what I'm talking about is a buddy of mine. He bought an Electra Glide Ultra Classic with the Screaming Eagle package. It's nice bike. I don't know if it's 35K worth of nice bike, but it's a nice bike. When discussing his bike with someone what do you think is his focus? The nice paint? The comfortable seats or the other touring comforts? Nope. He starts in about how fast it is. Call me crazy, but that's just down right funny to me. I love Harleys and have owned many and will likely own more. But, speed isn't something that comes to mind when *I* discuss them. They're the best, IMO, at things like paint, chrome work, available accessories and they sound incredible. But, fast? Not unless you're talking a pro drag bike.

I admit I wanted the RIII for the largess. Handing and speed were just icing. After 5 yrs in production it remains the cc king. Sure it can be beat by several but the sheer intimidation factor remains. I just don't get challenged and that is fine with me.

I know what you mean with the Harleys. I have an 82 bagger that I do nothing with. I have had it for about 6 years and after having to do some work on it due to it being left sitting for a couple of years, I didn't put enough miles on it to need an oil change in all that time. I also have a 73 chopper. That is the one I like to ride when I ride a Harley. I love a chopper and have been ridding them since my first Triumph. My R3T is my everyday ride. It is plenty fast enough but when you know the potential is there for more you kind of have to go for it. I did buy it for the comfort and handling more so than the power. If I had wanted just the comfort I would have gotten a Harley but that big ass 140CID and the unusual styling is what really sold the R3T for me. Nothing looks like it and nothing rides like it.

I went with the R3T because I've tired of Harleys for awhile and the thought of having something that few others would was appealing to me. It's worked out too. I've never encountered another R3T. I run into Rockets on occasion, but never a R3T. I do get tired of people asking me a hundred questions about whenever I pull in somewhere, however.

I picked the Rocket because first it was a Triumph, which I am loyal to. 2nd It was big (size wise) and not everybody has one. 3rd is that I wanted a cruiser type bike and not another lean over bike that my hands would go to sleep after ten minutes. 4th, was the power. I don't go around challenging people to drag races or anything and I never will, but I can pass cars so fast it is ridiculous. I don't see any harm in getting the most power out of a bike that you can. The faster the better.

I haven't seen anymore R3T's either. I went to Biketoberfest and saw a bunch of R3's but not a T in sight. I think that is going to change now. Look at all the guys on the R3T forum. I know wildrooster lives right up the road from me and he has one as well as a couple of others within 200 miles.

There are threads with F.A.Q.'s:

• Yeah, it’s a Triumph
• Yeah, they’re still in business
• Rocket III
• Yeah, just like the old BSA
• No, count the pipes
• 2,300cc = 140 cu in
• HP – 140 stock, mine more
• Torque – 147 ft lbs
• About 700 lbs
• Yeah, big tank, 6.5 gal
• Yeah, it’s fast, real fast

I need to come up with a few more about my Darkside tire. I suppose a few other mods would be necessary for the R3T.

That, and I don't like the VTX. At all. Honda has a pretty poor cruiser line up. It's not as bad as Suzuki or Kawasaki, but it's pretty bad.

:) I had 2 VL1500's Before my R3T. They kicked but over most other bikes in their class, and had the most classic styling. Now Suzuki has the C109 and it is putting out some "SERIOUS" horse power. I still hang out on the Suzuki Forum and I'm impressed with the numbers that G'man is getting out of a cruiser that is $6k-$8k cheaper than our bikes. Their biggest problem is lack of aftermarket. Both of mine were bulletproof.
