Cost of ownership ?

2014 is the 10th year of production so most issues have long since been worked out.

This was a big selling point to me, as Triumph have addressed nearly every complaint or problem that has surfaced over the last 10 years with an updated or modified part. I like the maturity of the platform.

i have a 2013 R3T purchased new. the OEM tires only lasted 6k, but the Avon Cobras i replaced them with have 8k on them and are showing no real wear....so if you actually ride the thing, get Avons when the time comes. The service interval is at 500 miles, then 10k. I have the 60 month extended warranty and wanted to ensure i was meeting its requirements to stay in force.....spoke to Triumph and they said no matter who does the service, you or a shop, just keep the invoices to show the service was done. I've ridden over 40 years and never had a bike go 10K between services. For me, thats two or three a year.....a MONSTER savings.

and as some others have mentioned....its a freaking Triumph Rocket....the biggest, baddest ride on the road....

I think the manual actually says "x miles OR 1 year", "x miles OR 2 years" etc.

Many thanks to all who responded. Y'all collectively have help "seal the deal".

We are approaching empty-nester status, and I'm looking forward to getting back weekends with my wonderful better half, and ride with her "in style" on the R3T.

With any luck, the Rocket will be in my garage within two weeks.

New here . . . posted in "Introduce Yourself" . . . hail from northern Virginia . . . prospective owner . . .

Just wondering about the cost of ownership.

Tires . . .service . . . brakes . . . saw a thread about a weak shift linkage . . .

How much might I do for myself . . . for what must I take to the dealer . . .

Looking at a 2014 Two Tone R3 Touring.

Will want to install heated grips, backrest for me, and a couple of powerlets for heated gear for those wonderful rides in cooler weather.

All the best to you.

Cheers,

Paul

I would forgo the heated grips on the Touring. My throttlr cable broke on mine. Triumph replaced but I am hesitant to use them. I do have Gerbing heated gear, a jacket and gloves. They work great!

G'day and welcome to the forum. Change the oil every 10,000 miles, replace the front tyre every 7,000 to 17,000 miles, change the rear tyre every 20,000 to 25,000 miles. Add a few accessories, after all, the the bike is just the down payment on accessories. Fill the tank every 180 to 200 miles. That would be about it as far as costs go. Benefits are a continual smile.
Man I wish I could get that kind of mileage on a rear motorcycle tire.

Heated gloves are amazing, I have Gerbings too. Applying the heat to the top of the hand where the wind chill hits is fantastic, much better IMHO than heated grips.

That said, there are (probably more reliable) third party options. Avon makes grips that appear to have Heat Demon heaters in them, or one can go with Iso-grips and install internal heaters in the bars (also Heat Demon), though that latter approach means one has to work on the bars themselves and take stuff off as I wrote in a previous post. But I agree, the OEM heaters are not reliable and have a massively ugly controller box instead of a sleek little chrome button like the Heat Demons.

I have ordered the Avon grips, THANK YOU.

I ride all year, and FWIW - YMMV -- I've found that I need both.

Either one alone, is similar to sitting by a fire on a cold night. You can get close enough to get one side warm, while the other side is cold. Get so close to do anything for the other side, and you singe your whiskers.

So, for me, I'll have the grips AND the gloves, thank you, for the reasons cited above.

Go for it they run great and its not a harley, not a harley, not a harley and less expensive than a harley, better than a harley, and no body in ur town has one but everybody wants one, best of all its not a harley. Every time I ride my R3T it feels like my first piece arse it's that good!!!!

Cost of ownership? what that saying, " if you need to ask". seriously though the same reason i don't take my truck to the dealer. it's just a bit harder finding a local wrench that knows triumphs.
