My GF and I are interested in a communication system that can be used so we can communicate while we are riding (on separate bikes). Hopefully we can find a system that will allow us to listen to music but also speak to each other as we are riding. Any experience or suggestion you may have about the best products to use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

J&M seems to get good reviews.

Chatterbox, I don't like them, just don't like things hanging off my helmet but some people love them.

I've had a StarCom on other bikes, it works alright but I think it's over priced.

Nolan makes a helmet set that has built in communications stuff, the N-103 I think.

You may want to look at PVP

I use the scalda rider with the fm radio on it. Of course I don't have a passenger often and when the head of the war department rides its not on trips. If you have two of them they link to cell phones for communication and if you choose different music each has their own choice. I do not use the mp3 on my Zumo and I shut the voice commands of as one woman nagging me is enough especially when I want to venture off course.

Oh don't let your lady read this as I don't want you to get slapped!!!!

Thanks...I'm hoping to findsomething that will work with a full face helmet. Ideally something that will work with one that i already have. Anyone aware of anythng like that?

Yeah, the Scala Q2 above. Helmet-to-helmet, and supposed to also be good for bike-to-bike out to 500 m. The earpieces and mike just tuck in under the helmet lining, ten minute job per helmet, can stay in place when you're not using them, makes ya look like Tom Cruise Top Gun.

As if you'd want to.......

The communicator bit clicks on and off the helmet easily, two seconds.

All of the bluetooth stuff mentioned above is good and well concealed, but your comms will not exceed several hundred meters. For example, would if you get separated, such as at a light.. I recommend the Chatterbox XBi... Our Rat pack uses these on our rides... GR3Wolf and I can communicate up to five miles thru the PA and WV mountains with ours... You can also pair it with bluetooth devices such as phone, Ipod and GPS...

Thanks Mike...this one seems like the way to go. If I am listening to my ipod and she wants to communicate or vice versa how does that work?

You can in one of two ways... You can put a hardwired press to talk button down your sleave or have your comms initiated through voice.. You have a knob to control the voice actuation level... When there is voice communication initiated by anyone, any audio from Mp3, Ipod, GPS or whatever is cut out and all you hear is the voice. When the communication is over, the music resumes automatically...

I tried a firefox throat mic and a motorolla system because both can be used with headphones ( I need my s-plugs or custom plugs so anything can be heard over my jardines) and they both sucked..... the mic was pressed up against my face ( big head, small helmet) and the throatmic was great until it moved off of the sweet spot then you couldn't understand anything....... both ended up a waste of money...... so now I ride with an iPod and my wife and I use hand signals and are both much happier......

just my $0.02

Being able to hear other people, and then having to talk to them, sort of defeats the purpose of riding a bike, doesn't it? :?

And they know when you've fc#@kd up, 'cos they hear you say things.....
