Clunk

I suspect this topic has been brought up before. If it has, I apologize for bringing it up again. However.... my (new to me) 2005 Rocket with 7000 miles on it clunks prettly loudly when I shift gears. It is more predominent in first, second, and third gears. It is a lot quieter in 4th and 5th. Is this normal for the beast? The clutch is adjusted properly and it shifts relatively smoothly. It goes into neutral easily.

I think I read somewhere that the clunking has something to do with the clutch plates seperating but I unfortunately, cannot find that article again. Anybody got any thoughts on the matter? Appreciate any input!

Not sure of the cause, but it was definitely a prominent sound on my '06. I was always told that it would get quieter & smoother as time went on. I'll never know on mine 'cause the shifter is wrapped around the dresser bar and engine block (crash damage)

Mine is a clunky shift too seems normal, I suspect it depends on what you were used to before.

Trumpet...never thought of it that way, though it's a mighty expensive and painful way to quiet 'er down. 8)

Bob, no :cry: I gave her her last rights and walked away. :cry: Insurance adjuster wrote her off as a total loss. The good news is I'll replace her with an '07, mulberry in color(all other colors are too slow), but no tribal. Working hard to a mid-July return to the road, just gotta' see how the ribs heal. Right now my travels are limited to reading the adventures of TurboFan and soon, Gasket's cross country trek. 8)

My son inlaw has a Daytona 675 and his clunks too. That's the nature of Triumphs. :wink:

Hell, just about all bikes have a clunk. The Rocket though is really clunky. No getting away from the sounds the giant mechanicals are making in that gearbox. Well... you could wrap your whole engine in sound insulation foam. That'll do the trick!

Anyways, what we're saying is it's normal.

Ah yes! Mulberry Red! That is the fast color. Good choice! BTW, ask the insurance company how much they will sell the bike to you for. You may be surprised at how little you can get it for. WHat is a slightly used R3 engine going for nowadays? :wink:
