chromed fork bottoms
They are beautiful .

But there is a reason they don't come that way. The chroming process can make many metals brittle. That's why you rarely see show chrome on structural items.

I'm not saying to throw them away , just be diligent and inspect regularly for cracking.

When structural items are chromed such as the piston (chrome sliding tube) on the fork. It is stress relieved , and no I don't know what that process is.

By the way this isn't just some urban legend it's taught in Aircraft Mechanics school.

Trophyrider the chromers are Tk platers ltd , atcham business park nr shrewsbury. Web site tk-platers.co.uk all the info is on there. You should still be in warranty and you could ask your dealer to let you get the replacement chromed before fitting . worth a try



Lester532 thanks for the advice , if thats what they teach in aircraft mechanics school i will take it as fact. But will still be fitting them, will just take care during landings and take offs.

IMHO I would dedicate most of my inspection to the left fork where it pinches the axle bolt.

BTW my machine tools instructor said that he watched them bend the St Louis arch from one straight peice of steel. I think he may have been full of sh!t.
 
You have got very nice looking legs! (don't take that wrong! ) What color is your bike?

I just helped my son remove and replace the lower fork tubes on his Harley Roadking. He had them powdercoated black. Man, did they come out good. It really makes the front of his bike stand out.

I was so impressed, I am very seriously thinking of removing the lower tubes from my R3T and having them powder coated black as well. I thought about chroming them, but thought the black might stand out a little better with my Black (and white) bike.

Your guy did a great job on the legs and at a good price too!
 
Aren't those lower sections made from aluminum, if they are and there was someone on the forum that polished aluminum I'd be willing to bet that he would take care of them for ya, all you'd have to do is ask.
