Broken bolt in block under throttle body adapter - what now ?

I agree , extractors have their place . But you being a metal worker will know full well , there are extractors and then there are extractors . When most home mechanics equip , they would not want to spend the money that a really good quality set would cost , or even know where to buy the best . Cheaper ones shatter unexpectedly and if that happens , one needs to be looking for a firm who specialise in spark erosion !

Great suggestion there, Nathy!
Also especially very true for drill bits - cheap = bad!

If you are not too confident with the centre punch, you can also buy drill centering guides , these fit in the hole and a small drill bit passes through the middle thus ensuring a perfect centre !

I have a set of these and the very few times I've needed them over 40+ years has paid for them many times over.

Again @warp9.9 Scott you know better than Triumph.

I had my manual open to Section 3 Head (also against your advice -- I was too much in a hurry to make copies) and the instructions say to remove the throttle bodies followed by the adapters (the rubber thingies). Presumably this last is so one avails oneself of the opportunity when one would otherwise not do it, to renew the seals under the adapter bases (almost identical to the seal under the water pump cover - also just replaced).

And this is yet another "Doh, I shudda hadda V-8" moment with the tap. Will do that for all the holes.

THANK YOU ! :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

:thumbsup:

:D

OK not to say the people who wrote the manual drank warm beer. or because they might have employed someone from a third world country that does not speak English or even enjoy the finer arts of cholesterol consumption :D I strongly recommend you ask questions even if it seems stupid and goes against the drunkards who wrote the book and never turned a wrench except for tuning themselves because mama would not buy them a wench :)

Ok enough but commit this to memory MD -1/N and over a inch Md - 1.0825/N. the ladies will explore and explain I have confidence in them :) Let me know what they come up with as I am already impressed with them.

Say what ???? :cautious:
ask the girls my bet if they do not know they have the knowledge of the path to find out.. Heck I do not want to give any hints because I am impressed and believe they will come up with the answer. I think they are just constants in the equation and will work for metrics stuff but let me do some quick calculations to verify. Either way I got the girls speaking the right language but its just a feeling. good thing I'm 40 year's give or take older then them not many smart gals around anymore :D Mechanically that is :D

Ok upon a few calculations the differential equations works for regular math or the metric crap this means it is more of a ratio function then a defined thread nomenclature differential change :D for the rest of you its still all pink inside :D

Kind of makes me wonder why I dropped out of high school though :D

I used a left drill bit to remove a broken bar end bolt that sheared off, easy as pie. Dont over complicate it, drill the bugger out with the reverse bit.
we used to sharpen them in reverse just for that. long before they decided to grind some and sell them. heck that was back when we hand ground a tapered extractor to get a bolt out.
