Bridgestone Rear Tire 240 55 16

I've got 7000 on it at the moment and could probably get another three mate but I want fresh front and rear so I can get a better idea of how the cobra performs up front . The next rear will stay on longer . $25 to fit her mate and the tire cost $200

I took Richards advice and had the cobra fitted on Tuesday when I had the brake pads replaced ,still got heaps to go on the Bridgestone before I get to the wear marks .

Mitch, I'm pretty sure you've nailed the reason for the insurance red herring. At Joes all tyre prices include "free" fitting. If you buy a tyre to take away, the price is the same, although you can sometimes negotiate $5-$20 off. If you bring one in the get fitted, you get charged $30-$50 (fitted a car tyre to a Rocket today for $50, no problem at all, by the way). He carries a lot of stock and noone needs to book in; just show up and they're fitted while you wait, usually within 30 mins and often a lot less.

At the moment he has a good margin on tyres so can continue to offer this type of service (and pretty much the lowest prices around here). BUT, and it's a big but, the more people come in the get their own tyres fitted, the more he's going to charge for that. One day, he'll get to the point where appointments will be needed and he might even give up on stocking tyres at all. Anyone needing a tyre in a hurry may well have to wait for one to arrive from overseas and then wait for fitting. Cost savings will be eroded by higher fitting costs and greater inconvenience.

You gotta ask yourself if this is what we really want. personally, I'd much rather pay a few extra bucks and help keep these type of operation running. Not for them but for me.

I don't blame these businesses being worried but the bull**** still pisses me off.

Smart bloke ... sorry could not help myself Richard
Well written post too by the way, Richard and hats of to "Joe's" for his Attitude to keeping the prices down just a shame it's a bit far the savings I would make would be offset by cost of getting there My local (car) Tyre Dealer (former Biker) looks after us local guys by usually getting bike (any brand you ask for) tyres in overnight and only charges for tyre as I bring wheel in myself

I tried to talk him out of it but he was determined.

He actually thinks he may have met you (Hanso) in Bathurst. Big Turkish gut with a pony tail, unfinished (ie matt black) Roadster. He also mentioned he had a spare engine that was being bored to 2.6, turbo'd and getting the Carpenter treatment. Not sure how much was BS but he said he'd bring it in to show me.

doesn't ring any bells but that is not to say I didn't meet him it would have to have been 3 "Bathurst 1000"s ago that was the last time I was in Bathurst

This year I think. I was pretty sure he hadn't met you as soon as he wasn't sure. I mean, how could anyone meet you and not be absolutely certain? ;)

I was always under the impression that the rocket could not be bored out due to the cylindars being too close together. If im wrong someone who actually knows will chime in .Warp??.and if he is here in australia why would he send to carpenter. also if u can bore it out why hasnt carpenter done this yet?

Sounds like a horn jerker to me
