Update: Well, they finally tracked it back to the starter solenoid. They replaced it under warranty. It wouldn’t start, but they downloaded firmware for the ECM and it started right up. The bike started throwing codes (engine check). They thought maybe a wire was pinched. Said I could ride it safely for the weekend until a new wiring harness arrived. Guess what? … The list of what didn’t work on the ride: Hill assist, cruise control, fuel gauge (ECM?), Bluetooth display/control (because of firmware?), AND *drumroll* the engine shutoff multiple times while stopping at approaching intersections.
Definitely a bad situation. It’s even a safety issue. The rider gets distracted by some “failure” while riding.
Fortunately, the dealer has been accommodating. I think a bike swap is in my future. This bike seems to be a lemon.
