HeR3tic I have the 20227 tune but its the standard not the classic (have to tip the the guys out back) 40-42 ridin in a group (read limping along behind the Harleys) and turn the wick up on the Hiway at 37-38 (read: OK I'm tired or ridin in the noise and oil) I can really see no diference in the new idle problem tune at all. I took my trailer for it's maiden voyage last weekend and run a solid 35mpg.:)

Sorry I'm not that technical. I'm putting on Jardines. What exactly is the tune(20227) are you talking about? In other words can I get my cake and eat it too?

Remember the old, well worn adage about how to keep an erection all night.....don't fu** with it???

The more you f**k with the R3, the less mileage you'll get. It's not an economy vehicle in the first place by any means, but I average just a tad over 40 city and highway. I've never f**ked with it at all. Besides, at 6K, my Metzler shows very little wear. I'm expecting over 10, maybe 12.

You'll never get your cake and eat it too. The bike is running very lean to be emission requirements (as are all bikes in factory form today). Make it breathe better, fuel it more and the mileage will go south, in a hurry.

So, mine sounds like a motorboat and decel pops a bit but it still goes like hell when I open the fun valve (which ain't often).

As you become accustomed to the bike, you'll need that adrenaline rush more often and that corresponds into more applications of the fun valve and less mileage.

If you want to break the sound barrier and possibly your ass, get a 'Busa.

Thanks for the advice

20227 is the new Recall tune for engine idle probs, I can't see that it changed anything on my bike. Idle, power, mileage all seem the same, The Standard and the Classic each have there own tune. for some reason I don't understand. I convinced my dealer to install the standard tune as a alturnative to removing the secondary butterflies. It's not the same but did give a noticeable increase in set of the pants testing.

I started off with a 2005 standard rocket, left everything stock, and got 38 to 40mpg always. Then traded it in to get the 2007 classic, it gives me 34 to 36mpg. but I do have plenty of power. I actually accidently raised the front end up the other day shifting from first going into second, and scarred the crap out of me. I am not one to do wheelies, at least not on purpose. Rademis

The 20227 Tune, Standard, with a bit of decel tuning made absolutely no difference in my mileage. 30mph. I'm fairly certain I've a throttle body balancing act to accomplish. I've also had the idle issue arise on a fairly regular basis now. I've resorted to shutting 'er down, at the stop light, and restarting to quell the 1200+ rpm idle.

Cake and eat it too? As Pig9r said, about the time you've gotten the beast broke in you're looking to put the spurs to the FBG. Leaving the beast stock, by consensus, produces the best mileage. The first major power boost on mine came was with shelving the cat box and that should have been my extent of mods. Considering I've now detuned.

So is it my understanding that simply adding a jardine and the appropriate downloads from the dealer is going to drastically change the way this bike consumes. It can't be that bad? On a similar note what about a K&N filterin the stock locatin (not the stacks)? Generally speaking I thought those improved mileage?
