Remember the old, well worn adage about how to keep an erection all night.....don't fu** with it???
The more you f**k with the R3, the less mileage you'll get. It's not an economy vehicle in the first place by any means, but I average just a tad over 40 city and highway. I've never f**ked with it at all. Besides, at 6K, my Metzler shows very little wear. I'm expecting over 10, maybe 12.
You'll never get your cake and eat it too. The bike is running very lean to be emission requirements (as are all bikes in factory form today). Make it breathe better, fuel it more and the mileage will go south, in a hurry.
So, mine sounds like a motorboat and decel pops a bit but it still goes like hell when I open the fun valve (which ain't often).
As you become accustomed to the bike, you'll need that adrenaline rush more often and that corresponds into more applications of the fun valve and less mileage.
If you want to break the sound barrier and possibly your ass, get a 'Busa.
