Just changed the gear oil in the bevel box, and the drain plug was torqued to at least 60NM and the fill plug was so tight I had to use a dead blow hammer to break it free!!

The dealer must have use foot pounds. What a bunch of mouth breathers!!!

I guess a 20 dollar tip to the mechanic was not enough!

I just dont get the whole torquing up every bolt thing , some things yes especially where theres multiple bolts across a large surface but common sense should tell you that bolts like on the rear drive only need to be nipped up to prevent leaking

I SEE THIS KIND OF STUFF all the time most tire places when torquing a rim hammers it down with an impact which torques the nut to about 150 lbs then puts the torque wrench and checks it to 85 to 120. that is not torquing the nut. what happens is a lot of the times it stretches the stud and locks the nut down so when you try to take it off you break the stud. i ask them not to use an impact and when i check them they are usually about 150 lbs.

That is so old school brother - but I am with you there.
Materials used to manufacture IMO are not as good as they used to be as engineers have made things to be as strong as they need to be to do the job- not last forever as it was in yesteryear.

Totally agree

Yep I did mine and noticed the filler plug is heavily torqued 60 NM but the drain plug is only 15 nm. If one does not pay attention he could run into problems :(

it seems to me that the guy with the big muscles usually has the most problems. worked with a couple
and it seemed like it was always harder to take bolts loose after they had tighten them up.
