Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I had a first year Magna V65 and actually liked the looks of it. I loved the power, so much so that I bought a new Sabre V65 the next year to keep it company. I still have the Sabre and it's in mint condition with only 2820 original miles.

As much as I love Triumphs, it is embarrassing to say that the only bike I ever had that I considered ugly was the first year Trident with the tri-exhaust tips. Although it wasn't pretty, it was a great machine.

Early in 1983, Honda started running the TV ad that showed a rider running through the 1/4 mile at the drag strip, blistering down the track. From that moment, I wanted a V65. I was in the Air Force, stationed in Grand Forks, ND. I went to the local Honda dealership and asked about the Magna. They said they hadn't even started receiving shipment of the bikes yet. I asked them if I could buy the very first one they get. They took down my name and number and couple of months later they called me. "We have your new V65", the man said on the phone...I bought the very first V65 Magna sold at the Honda dealership in Grand Forks, and I rode it home on a cold March day...unfortunately, I sold that bike 4 years later, but I loved it while I had it...a friend of mine who lives in Hawaii still has one, though he probably doesn't ride it much these days since he just recently bought a brand new V-Max...

Actually those pipes were part of reason I chose the Trident and not a Bonnie. I did run a Jardine 3 into 1 system for a few years but have the ray guns back on it now.
