Will look up the ssb lithium though
If you go Lithium - IT MUST have LiFePO4 chemistry not just say Lithium-Ion. And ime - If you REALLY want to be sure you need cells made by A123Systems.

To give you some idea - the A123 2.5aH cells cost about 10€ each. And for an R3 you will need 16(4*4) or better still 20(5*4) cells.

Most M/C targeted batteries are 3*4. They will turn an R3 over with no issue - but if you're going to cough up - do it well. Starterbatterien

I would recommend to avoid the Super Start from O'Rielly Auto Parts. Just had to replace it at less than 11 months old. And I don't think the cold south Louisiana winter had anything to do with it's short life.

Not knowing what BMS is I cannot answer.
Battery Maintenance System - - basically some electrics that makes sure each individual cell is properly charged. Given it's age I would guess not.
The homebuilt one I have in the Guzzi was also made without - but it has teh now no longer made 8aH cells in.

Thanks for advice -appreciated.
I’ve looked briefly into Lithium batteries:-
My charger (optimate 4) will not keep it fully charged , and as it’s for the Rocket I’m not interested in saving on mass.
So far then - no real advantage over a good quality LA or

Ok then I've never had mine apart so I cannot say. 8 years so far so good. Even using it to jump other vehicles in the dead of winter. I also think it works well with the lead acid batteries. Hope so I need a few more years oit it it to make the 500 bucks worth while. So far I'm pleased

Honestly in the UK - Nope.

Here LeadAcid's dry out fast and most M/C batteries are sealed and not top-up-able.

LiFePO4 has been a blessing: Li-Ion less so in winter and bleedin' annoying in the UK spring (in Wimborne Dorset) when sometimes it was "just" cold enough to require a "warm up" cycle.

I've gone out in below zero weather and fired mine up. Not to ride, I'm Polish not stupid :)
Anyway thats how I found out the little bugger is quicker then jumper cables in the winter. I also must admit one of my lead batteries sulfided up sitting at Carpenter racing for almost a year while they were doing what they said would only take a month.
