Battery Upgrade

Too many 625's in operation successfully for it to be at blame. As I was reading your post, I kept saying to myself...igintion switch. When they crap out, it causes all kinds of intermittent problems. I know. Been there.

I'm in agreement with the switch theory, that **** thing caused me all kinds of trouble. You mentioned aux lights ... are they on a relay, or wired right to the low/high beams?
I ask because any little extra load (big keyring included) on the switch will help it fail. I found that out the hard way.

Learning to wheelie does the switch no good either. Letting the wheel back down gently is an acquired talent.

My fog lights are the $18.00 Wal-mart type, and draw 55 watts as I recall. Maybe this is a higher current draw than the standard Triumph brand fog lamps, and thus are overloading the the R3s charging circuit? My fog lamps aren't wired through the headlights or the ignition switch, but instead are wired directly to the battery with only a fuse and a toggle switch in the circuit.

Battery Mart, which also sells the Odyssey batteries and charger, recommends this battery as a replacement to the OEM Yuasa in our R3s. With what limited specs are offered, it appears to be a stronger battery (17.5 aH vs 16 and 270CCA vs 265) than the Odyssey for about $20 less plus it appears that it will fit in the battery compartment without any mods. The one review from an R3 owner in Ohio was positive. Has anyone else tried this replacement battery? There are other differences, of course, e.g., AGM type vs Dry Cell and a 1 yr warranty vs 2, so maybe this is a "you get what you pay for " kind of comparison?

It would be nice not to have to spring for another battery charger (currently, I have the Tender Jr.) when and if I potentially purchase an Odyssey 625.

Check it out!:

"I liked the Odyssey AGMs but didn't want to lose my tool kit with the PC-625 mod. Decided to go with the PC-545MJ. PERFECT fit with no mods to the battery box! The metal jacket gives the battery a higher temperature rating also - - good thing since it's above the cat box."

I'm wondering how the 545 worked out since the original install? Do you use the Odyssey charger to maintain?

Dude you took the words right out of my mouth, I would love to hear a long term review of that battery and how it performs in the cold as well as under a load with accessories. Keep us informed once in a while.

If I'm not mistaken it has slight less initial CCA as the 625, but costs nearly $50 more. hey, if it fits the bill, though, the extra $$$ will be well worth it to some who really don't relish doing the battery holder mod.
