I am fitting running lights on my R3 classic, I will need to supply them via a relay which will be mounted under one of the side panels but does anyone know where I can pick up a switched live feed to wag the relay. I guess that as they will come on with ignition and the headlamps then any ignition live will be ok.

When I was wiring my aux lights...

Option #1
--------------------
Under the left side cover there's a connector for the OEM aux power outlet.

Since I moved my ignition into the left side panel, I clipped the connector and used that power feed.

Option #2
---------------------
If you want to go under the right side cover, the lead for the brake light are on top of the bundle in front of the ECU. I believe the 'live feed' for the brake asembly is a three wire set with a blue wire, yellow wire, and black wire(?).

You can confirm by keying your ignition and putting a 12V test light into the back side of the connector.

Option #3
-----------------------
You're other option is to run a hot circuit and hide a switch.

I have a hot circuit and I put the switch in the top of the left side cover up under the lip of the seat. You can't see it unless your looking for it and I can still use the switch when I riding down the road by reaching under the lip of the seat.

Cheers ratboy I'll look at all 3 options, at first sight the brake system looks fav. because I know where it is since I fitted a self cancelling flasher unit which connects into the brake light circuit thanks for the info. :D

I wasn't the one that originally did this mod.

I actually copied it from another captain, but I cannot remember who did it. They had their 'wally-world specials' mounted on top of their rad. I mounted mine off of the front brake caliper.

I have a set of those "wally world" $24 sets mounted under the radiator. I took my power for the relay trigger from the low beams and power straight from the battery. This way they are only on with the low beams and switched with the key. If I were to add more powerful "driving" lights, I'd take the trigger from the high beams.
