Here is what I have found out about the spacer situation. I will skip the measurements because the spacer is the correct one for the bike. I managed to get ahold of the head tech at the dealership and he told me that it is common for the swing arm to pull away once the torque is taken off the nut, situation normal. Some pull away more, some less, don't worry about it.
" I know some guys that are wrenches and really anal about things machine a spacer to tighten up the tolerances" says he. I reckon that he can add one more to the list of those guys.
Alberta Duke, I did notice that getting the spacer back in was a bunch harder than getting it out in the first place. I am thinking that big O-ring on the inside of the drive splines on the wheel that keeps the moly lube from slinging out onto the wheel takes a bit of force to get seated. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to get it back in on mine until a little gentle rocking lever work with a couple hammer handles popped it in in just enough to get the spacer in.
