A story from facebook of a beautifully restored early 2005 with gear damage I have not seen posted here before. @warp9.9 may be able to provide a cause/analysis. Makes me feel glad I only had the shattered teeth of one 4th gear in my sump and no grindings!

Split the case, parts replaced as seen below: 2nd gear, chewed up 3rd & forth, and of course all circlips, washers etc. Cyl head, (destroyed cam journal), oil ladder, both cams, bolts, timing chain, spark plugs, all gaskets. Thank God for eBay! Valves lapped (you'd be surprised how bunrt and pitted your exhaust valves are) and adjusted mostly to mid scale tolerances - a ton of work achieving that, and new valve seals to boot. Output shaft bearings.

Sort of looks like somebody put the whole cluster in a friggin big pencil sharpener! ;) 🤔

The other 5th output gear has rounded dogs.

The USA located rebuilder/owner further posted. It was stuffed when he got it cheap with 68,000 miles so I presume he rolled/rode it up the trailer ramp.
AND a super good overall cleaning with a high end paint job. Check it out!
Ok, I'll stop showing off now, and see how it goes when the rubber meets the road. I will report .
I HAVE NEVER EVEN RIDDEN ONE YET, except this one up the trailer ramp 4 months ago.

He did a nice job though and got it all back together.

i did all the work myself. Never done a moto engine like this before, but the free on line manual is very well spelled out. There is almost no way to put things together wrong. I ordered all my tranny and related specific parts from my local triumph dealer, that way there is no shipping. And of course check ebay as much as possible, i got some screaming deals there.
I dont even know how many hours, quite a few though because it was my first time and being way nitpicky cause i could while waiting 4 parts. About $1k from the triumph dealer for mostly tranny which i didnt think was all thst bad, and about 7 or so off eBay which really bailed me out. Head alone from dealer was 1750$, i got a nice one with all parts for $320 on eBay, scheesh. Cams i killed it too, saving about $800 one was 35$ shipping included and came unopened in the original triumph packaging. $495 at dealer. Gasket kit about a 1/3 the cost. Brake discs, pads.

That from the movement of 3 and 4 out moving after the circlip popped off. I'm just thinking out loud here but the fork on this gear has the highest probability of getting bent.
