Fred the timing mark is on the crankshaft large driver gear that meshes with the clutch basket not the little cam chain gear on the end of the crank shaft.
the book is a little missleading fred their is actually two marks on the primary crankshaft gear and tow on the crank case one is directly behind that tooth (but on the case and primary gear and the other in about 1.5 inch up in the inspecton port showing the primary gear let me see if I was smart enough to take pictures of both. Infact go to the crank shaft section the first page shows the break down of the crank you can see the two dots on the primary gear. I will dig out Gracies manual as she is a 05 maybe there was a good liquid lunch when they did the 05 manuals. the one bishop has you can down load is right also.
