The point of the switch is to keep the headlight off when you turn the ignition switch on. The headlight doesn't have to go off when the starter button is pushed, saving a few watts of cranking power (at most). The real beauty of the toggle is when using a Tune downloader (Tuneboy, Tune ECU, et.al,), you don't have to pull the light fuse to prevent battery drain.
