New to the boards guys so please, be gentle.
Tried to find a thread explaining how to remove the stock air cleaner but haven't been able to.
Can anyone be kind enough to tell me how is done?
Thank you.

I haven't done this for a long time but I believe there are a few screws on the top of the filter, holdiing the black plastic cover on, which is, of course under the seat. The seat is removed by turning the lock at the back of the right hand side cover using the ignition key.

Do you mean just the air filter element or the whole 'plumbing' that runs from bearclaw back to the filter? Are you fitting the triple K&N type underclaw filters or just the stock filter for an aftermarket underseat filter ?

I've found the four screws and removed them but to no avail!
I hope it is that simple and the plastic cover doesn't come off because it has never been taken off!
2005 with 6,700 miles on it and not much service done at all.
I am still waiting for someone to tell me how to remove the stock air filter.

Remove the seat, unscrew the 4 screws in the cover over the filter, remove the cover and lift the filter out. Sounds like yours is just stuck.

CanberraR3 is right its probable just stuck and with a little help will lift off. In the difficultly level of service jobs this comes under (POP) piece of piss ....like Tomcat says go for the K&N filter and let your engine breath. Once fitted let the bike idol for 5 mins so the ECU works out the air fuel mixture and its done. :)
