Ok, the time has finally come to admit I want/need new shocks. The boing-scrape, boing-scrape thing is getting old fast.

Has anybody tried the 412s for the Rocket yet? The obvious appeal to me here is anything has to be better than stock and these are only $190 a pair.

The 418s look good too. About $30 less than the 440s and they have, IMO, a little bit more performance look to them than the 440s. They also have adjustment for rebound damping which appeals to me because it seems the rebound damping is the first thing to go when shocks wear out. Anybody tried these? If not, I was leaning towards maybe buying some to expand our experience base here.

440s - Rider and passenger geared up will be at **** near 400#, plus the weight of a touring load. You folks who have a few miles on the 440s, will the standard springs be heavy enough to give a decent ride and prevent bottoming? How is the rebound damping on these? I want to avoid the pogo effect. I hate that.

TIA for any feedback.

Thanks.

Todd, the Progressive site and their tech support said full turns of the 440 are needed to adjust properly. I also thought the notches were the measure, but the tech support told me to try 2-4 "turns" (full rotations) for solo and 4-6 "turns" for two-up. They said the notches on top were just for reference. 6 notches = a full rotation so if you are on 4 notches, you're only two-thirds of a turn from the softest setting which is why you're still bottoming out. At 220 lbs. I was having the same problem which is why I checked with them. They stressed not to go more than 10 turns from the softest setting though or you'll damage the shock.

Where can I buy progressives in New York (Manhattan)?
My daughter is there at the momen. Is there a big difference between UK and US prices?

SteveRed, You can use either the notches to help count turns or count the rings. Either way works. If you go to www.Progressivesuspension.com and click on "literature" then "shocks" and then find the 440 series and click on it, they have instuctions on how to install and adjust the shocks. Their tech support told me to count the turns.
