What are guys getting quoted for the 10K service? That's the Rocket interval for checking valves, right? I requested a quote for the 12K service on my Tiger and wasn't expecting the quote I got; $830.00. I know they have to check the valves and possibly shim some (don't know how often that actually happens), flush the coolant, etc..., but I wasn't expecting $830.00. I was expecting around $500.00.

I'm getting hammered this summer. I had to have my A/C (heat pump) replaced. That was $4800. I had another $2800 bill, and now this. Yikes!

Oh, and I also need tires. The dealer quoted me $187 on the front and $240 for the rear; just the tires, not installed. I'm not going to do that. I already have a quote from a local independent for $312.44 for BOTH installed.
 
Dealer gave me a price of $600-$800 to check valves. Couldn't afford that so tackled it myself....If they told me $200 I would wonder if it was getting done! It's a time consuming job.
 
I'm waiting on 20,000 miles to elapse; THEN i will take the bike in to the dealer for a valve check and adjustment. Most of what I've read through all forums; no one needed an adjustment at 10,000.

So, I just changed my oil and filter myself at 10,000, and did the rear differential and greased the splines as well.....
 
You ain't close to what my 40,000 ran RD, I bout fell out when I got the call and requested the damage.

A local independent quoted me $80 installation if I supplied the rear tire. After leaving it there yesterday for 6 hours, they called and said they couldn't do it and suggested I take it to a dealer . Called the 2 dealers, both 2 hours away and one wanted $145 installation only and the other $185 but said it included drive train servicing??? Why is it so hard to get a tire installed by a compitent service outfit?
 
I think it's better to just remove the wheel yourself, take it and the tire into a shop, drop it off, and don't say anything about where it came from. lol

I've been planning my attack for when the car tire goes on.
Got the story all laid out .....

Gonna tell them it's for a custom three wheeler with a car motor. And this is the rear drive wheel that stays upright, so it needs this here car tire mounted for SAFETY. heheeehe

Sneaky huh? ... keep it on the down-low. LOL

On the valve adjust thing, after watching the Triumph show about the factory, why o why do they want the valves adjusted at 10k? I thought quality control was top of the list, that **** should be right for 150k.
 
Local bike shop around the corner from me can take the rear tyre off in no time at all, the shop you are using must have some pretty crap equipment, first time I took my bike to them I told them about the rear tyre being a wee bit hard to remove the young mechanic laughed in my face as he was talking to me as he was removing the tyre plus he was chewing gum.

I was going to take the wheels off myself, but it isn't any cheaper. The independent charges $40.00 a tire regardless so I'll just let them do it. I'm set in the tire department. They're giving me a better deal than any of the online places ($240.00 for front and back). I'm going with the Dunlop Roadsmarts just to give them a try. I don't really have any complaints with the Michelin Pilot Road 2s that are on the bike (OEM). I've gotten 12k out of them. The only semi-gripe I have is they've flattened in the center and have lost a little grip. They actually have plenty of tread, but I'm not confident with them anymore and won't push very hard in corners anymore until I get some new shoes on the girl.

I'd do the valves myself if I knew how. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable with that.

$830.00 might be a fair price, but the timing is just killing me. I've already got nailed with almost $8k in unexpected home repairs this summer.
 
if i remember right my 10000 mile service was only 350 including checking valves my valves did not need adjusting till the 30000 mile service
