I wonder if the ignition switch has been upgraded and now the problem is finding the next weakest point. I would fit relays to the head lights to reduce the load to the loom and give you brighter lights as well.
Mine went out ( luckily just outside of my local bar:stirthepot and it cost me 280 euro to replace it even the bike was only 2 and a half years oldullhairout: After reading whats happened to you it's going to be a relocation kit innstallation very soon!!! Glad that every thing went OK with you. Triumph could very soon have a law suit on there hands if someone gets injured/killed due to the ignition switch system. That is just not allowed on any bike!!!!
ST, I have the same problem. Mine is also an 09 with less than 5k miles on it. You can just touch the connector and it shuts off or comes back on. I think it is the same wire also. I just jumped the connector with another wire to keep her out of the shop. If you pull the connector apart you will see where the connector is burnt on that one connection. Even after I jumped the connector it acted up on me two times during the Hill Country Salvo, no troubles since.
That blue and white wire is the main power feed to the ignition and also powers the headlights. I would definitely put relays and a better earth on the headlighs or you will keep getting problems.
Yes, that's our first mistake: the water is NEVER safe! Mine started acting up last week and would just click instead of run the starter...turn the key off then back on and works fine - something I'll be looking into shortly.
Well ST looks like I'm in the same boat your in. I'm taking my bike in next week to have the wiring harness replaced. My dealer informed me that there is not a wiring harness in the US, it will have to come from the UK. I don't know if I'll be able to handle the two or three weeks without the bike.
Guys I've just got back from a two day trip and my 09 classic kept shutting down then restarting at random. Very unnerving thing that? I called my local dealer and got told to tighten the battery terminals. When I mentioned the known problem about the ignition switch he said no problem that we know about?
