evening everyone i just ordered the triple k&n's for my bike and i was told that to really make the job a lot easier it is best to remove the tank. now as far as i can see there is no shut off valve on the tank so the pump must be in the tank itself. if i am right do i just remove the wiring and hoses and the tank will not leak only the remainder that is in the hose. any information on this is greatly appreciated thanks and ride safe

John Siphon as much gas out as you can then un hook wire connector. then you loosen up banjo bolt on fuel line on your right you will loose a little out of the line. unhook to vac lines they are overflow and recirc for the neck. they are in the front left side. take bolt out holding the tank and stand tak up against the wall on a towel to protect it. the instal reverse procedures

I found it pretty easy to do it with just propping the tank up. I left the center portion of the intake tract in place.

I thought we had a sticky on this. One of our members posted a tank removal process, complete with photos, to include the cutaway of a tank. I believe its purpose was a tutorial on how to adjust the float arm but it was comprehensive.

I siphoned the gas out of mine prior for tank removal.

Great stuff guys, I have mine to do, I'm swapping the colour. Do you lot change the banjo bolt washers and the fuel pump gasket every time ?

..that's what I'm wondering..scott in exile I think it was, had a major leak because he didn't change the banjo bolt washers..I changed to triple filters without the tank removed..just propped up..

Ive had my tank off at least 5 times now without changing the washer and no leaks. it is a crush washer so you must be carefull you can power the pump up with the tank in the air to look for leaks. I drain the tank ti lighten it up. The main object here is to control it and not damage the paint or the tank. Of course one of these times you will find yourself pulling the pump to change the filter. This is a great time to install a Walbro 342 pump that delivers more volume. which you wwill need if you star running more HP and higher rpms. Without it a lean condition can develope by just running out of fuel delivery capacity and then you will get good at changing pistons

I tilt mine up first, then remove the hoses and clips underneath, if you mark the two vent hoses ( or at least one of them) and the spot on the tank you will reassemble properly.

after I tilt it up and remove evrything, I loosen the bolt on the back and lift the whole assembly off.

I use a cardboard box with a soft foam pad and cloth to lay the tank upside down in. then you can work on doing anything else to it without scratching or dinging it.

If you need a fuel filter they are easy to replace just have to remove the pump assembly, be careful with the metal rod for fuel leval float. it bends easily ( which is how you fix it )

its under the how to, a complete detailed step by step with photos.

since i have my T bars and fairngs, I actually slid my tank back now to remove it .. easier then messing with the clocks..
