I thought I was buying a 2012 Touring with ABS. My insurance agent said the VIN on the bike lists it as a 2011. I checked myself and it is listed as a 2011 on the internet. I have to go home tonight and make sure that the paperwork VIN and the VIN on the bike match up. If it really is a 2011, can anyone tell me if it has ABS. I specifically thought I was buying a 2012 because it has ABS and the 2013s don't. If it ends up being a 2011, I'm ok as long as it has ABS but I just am not sure if the Touring had ABS as standard equipment in 2011.

If it has ABS, you can go the sensor via the brake line as the others have pointed out. But, the easier way to tell is to look for the little slotted disc. It looks like the brake disc, but smaller and is slotted. That's what the sensor is looking at when determining whether to engage the ABS.

p.s. You might be okay with being sold a 2011 as a 2012, but I'd raise holy hell with the dealer if they pulled that on me. That's behaving shabbily in the highest order and I would call bollocks and demand satisfaction. A 2011 should be discounted as it's nearly a 2 year old bike!

Daryl's right, just go to NADA and see the difference a year makes in the value of the bike. If you paid for a 2012 and got a 2011 they owe you some money. What does the paperwork say? If it says its a 2012 they also probably broke the law.

Paperwork says 2011. I never checked because the dealer led me to believe it was a 2012. Anybody have pics of what ABS looks like?

The wrong year thing must be contagious with Triumph dealers. I thought I was buying a 2012 and it turned out to be a 2013.

But if you thought you were getting a 12 then you thought you were getting ABS. The 2013 bike that you bought doesn't have it. Wouldn't that bother you?

Be glad you got a 2011! The 011 touring is a "Special addition" model with about $2500.00 in Triumph accessories that the 012 does not have. ABS is a personal thing. Just one more thing to go wrong in my opinion. My 011 puts itself on it's nose quite nicely without brake lock up from 100 MPH. No, the 011 R3T does NOT have ABS. Only the Roadster came with ABS in 011.

What Triumph really needs is a "linked brake" system like the Honda ST1300 without ABS. My 05 ST would stop on a dime from 120 MPH and give ya change! No ABS needed!
