I removed my tank yesterday to find out that the dealer had left my air box uncoupled. So I removed the entire air intake system and cleaned it out with a rag soaked in carb cleaner. While I was there I installed new plugs. Now despite cycling the switch to build fuel pressure several times the bike will not start. Guages sweep, fuel pump primes, then cranks but doesn't try to start. checked connections and broke the fuel line loose at the tank several times to bleed any air but no change. Any one have any ideas before I head to the dealer?

Sucks when that happens:mad: only advice I can give you is double check everything that you did, when I change my plugs I do one at a time so as I do not mix the plug wires up, check all your electrical connections, and if you have to remove the air intake again use it as a coffee cup holder and install the triple K&Ns, good luck and please keep us posted.

Also make sure you are getting a spark at the plugs I remeber a while ago that a few riders were breaking the plug leads when removing them.

Also look at the obvious, kill switch, clutch pulled in, in neutral, put battery on charger.

Also check that you don't have a headlight bulb burned out. Did you have the tank all of the way off or just propped up?

went back to step one today. Removed the tank and double and triple checked all ele. connectors. Pulled plugs and checked for spark, it was intermittent. Ohm checked plug wires and they were good. Checked voltage to coils and it was good. So I'm assuming if the coils are getting power but no spark to plugs the coils are not receiving a signal to fire due to a malfunctioning sensor. I checked the crank position sensor and it was good. So I've given up. Without a scanner I must resort to the dealer. Be sure they will receive a through ass chewing for not properly connection the air intake at last visit. I'll let you know what turns up. Thanks for your help everyone.

Back At IT

Well the dealer is 2 weeks behind so I'm back in the shop, not able to let it lie. Does anyone know what the cranking rpm should be from the starter? It seems to be cranking slow (the battery is good) but I can't find a starter test in the manual unless it's tested with the programmer. I could test the amp draw across the starter is anyone knows what it should be.

It's likely a bad relay

This sounds like a classic relay problem. Start swapping them out (there are 6 or 7, right?) until it starts. I had the same issue and tracked it to the relay.

They're $7 @ the local AutoZone, no problem.

Problem Solved : )

Had time in the shop today and my tune cable hasn't arrived yet so I started with swapping out the relay's, this didn't work. Next I started pin testing all the sensors started at the crank sensor and went foward all the way to the MAP sensor. When I took ahold of the map sensor to disconnect the harness I found the vaccuum line pulled away from the bottom of the sensor. Pluged it in and the rocket roared to life. It was nearly impossible to see with all the wiring. Next I cracked open a beer for celebration. Thanks for all your suggestions. I would not have thought the MAP sensor would keep it from starting but what do I know. Removed the secondaries while I had it apart and I'll order the triple K&N's today.:D
