I just got a Summer Screen, and was wondering whether the black rubber edging serves any purpose? If not, I'd just as soon leave it off.

the black edge is there to add another line in your vision. It's to protect the edge when bumped in the garage. I use mine to frame the view through the wind screen. outside of those reasons it drives up the price and the edge doesn't need to be polished. It's your bike, do as you like, just keep the shiney side up.:bch:

Somehow the idea of putting a black line in your field of vision doesn't make sense.
