What Dyno readings?

Hi Guys,

I am having the bike put on the dyno on Saturday as I am pretty certain I am NOT getting all the power I should be....

My question is this: Bog standard, what kind of readings should I expect from the dyno?

Being as this is real world power measured at the rear wheel, obviously it is going to deviate somewhat from the Triumph 'book values' at the engine - so I am hoping some of you can provide me with some 'benchmarks' to level set my expectations before Saturday.

Cheers! John.

I've never had a standard one, but I think you should expect about 120bhp at the wheel from a standard R3

Thanks guys, I was kinda guessing somewhere around there - but good to have it confirmed by some actual data!

You can lose 10-15% through the driveline vs the flywheel. Triumphs published numbers are obviously taken from the flywheel on an engine dyno, you can estimate what to expect from there.

Can't remember where I read it, but 127-128 HP at the rear wheel is what I read that a stock standard should produce.

Well, it appears I AM getting the power I should be (just under 118, which jives with several others on another site).... so now I know why some of you guys spend so much time, money on effort on getting more! LOL

I will scan and post the dyno run later for those that are interested / to provide baseline info. for others.

I don't have the cash for exhausts and such at the moment - is it worth doing the 'three K&Ns under the bearclaw' mod?

I had mine at the 10000 mile check up which needed 11 valve shims and it came out to 126 rwhp. Diink said it would increase as it breaks in more.

It's probably not worth doing anything unless you want to do a lot of street or track racing or if you'd prefer to have a noisier exhaust system.

The 3 k&n's are ok,
but a GiPro is better for what you're wanting to do right now.
More power without the added expense of exhaust or tuneboy.
OR
cheaper than that,
just remove the secondaries.
Initial cost? ZERO
performance improvment? VASTLY different.
Actually no more power, but the instant torque makes you think there is..;)
