I'm new to the rocket and want to know what are these "tunes and maps" everybody talks about. I figure they improve performance and hp but how do they work ?
Some say you download them, does that mean you hook the bike up to a computer ?
Please teach me, I have a lot to learn.
Thanks

Jeff807,
I know where you be - I was there not too long ago myself. While I am NOT the guy to tell you about doing this, I shall say, search Tune Ecu, PCV, Auto Tune for a start. Another main ingredient is: READ, READ & READ some more.

Just like cars, carbs on motors are dinos. Seems as all things fuel or timing are now controlled by Electronic Control Modules (Units). Computer programs called "maps" or "tunes" are installed by the factory to control the motor. Many of us are not content with the "stock" vehicle and wish to tinker so we can be a little faster than our buddies.

Along comes a few VERY DEEP thinkers who actually understand this $hit and they were able to figure ways to burglarize the ECU via computer and build from scratch new tunes/maps or alter some of the factory ones. The result is the motorcycle will now goes like a stripped-assed ape.

There are seemingly an infinite amount of details, items and minutia to deal with here; however, These few GURUS (gods of the almighty tune) share these tunes, info about which are best for your motor's set up and accessories and the dope on how to download them into your motor's ECU via laptop.

That's pretty much most of my nutshell of knowledge. Don't be afraid, Will Rogers; but, be **** CAREFUL. Oh yeah, if you live in America - go to Alabama for your power tripp. It seems to be the Mecca of the stoichiometric air:fuel ratio. My personal cyberspace tune GURU and Sensei is the Dude Down Under . . . the tune Wizard of OZ . . . disguised as rarely mild mannered, Hanso.
Best Regard & Happy Learning,

G'day Bloke;

welcome from Down Under, and you'll find all you need to know about tunes, performance, fuel economy, upgrades, & modifications right here.

Just got to the search tab and search the threads for what you want to know, when you read a few of the threads just asked one of the captains for more info on what you would like to know.

Oh ye mate the tunes do work, but it all depends on what mods you may have done or planning to do.

Beats me mate and i've had my Rocket since 2009 and done 96,000klms on it ... don't have the foggiest idea what they are on about. Oh yeh , welcome .

Basicly what they said just read and read and read some more if there is something you don't quite understand Ask the questions there are other's apart from me that will be happy to answer if possible and guide you to understanding, it really is not Rocket science in fact once you start to digest it it is quite easy to understand and manipulate the the beasts hidden treasures

And a welcome from me too. I'm more in the same space as TOMCAT although I may have something to add here. You might be wondering why Triumph, est. 1902, doesn't seem to know how to get the best out of its engines. Well, it's because the bikes leave the factory as a mess of compromises in the areas of performance (power), fuel economy, emissions, noise, etc etc. Some people are less concerned about, say, emissions than the regulators are and less fussed about fuel economy than they are about horsepower. Also, many people like to add things such as prettier or even louder exhaust, freer flowing intakes and change the timing, remove speed limiters and timing restrictions and so on. So, depending on what YOU want from your bike, there's a way you can achieve it. And what's more, you don't even necessarily need to start fiddling with maps and tunes to get more from your beast. Enjoy!

Hey Jeff Welcome from Perth WA downunder.

The famous Dude Down Under . . . the tune Wizard of OZ . . . disguised as rarely mild mannered, Hanso. is on the Eastern side.

They say he has a Lion's heart and eats raw meat occassionally.. but Im sure you will meet him soon .. hopefully after feeding time..

Don't know much about maps jeff..but there is a tune that i'm aware of..it's called the
triple jig..because it goes with a little dance that Rocket owners do everytime they
look at their bikes..
Welcome aboard
