Valve Clearance Check.

Happen to have a handy link for that Snap-On tooly?

Not right at the moment Bull, but when I get to work tomorrow I will get the part number off of it and post it. BTW after reading your post about the Hyper-Lites I ordered a set for my bike. Good stuff!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My bro rides a Roadliner and they have THE WORST OEM tail light I've ever seen.
I searched it out for him as I know many police motors are equipped with them.
Twas so good, I had to get one for myself. FYI - I rotated mine to be brightest at 200 feet rear and 5 foot above the pavement.

Just had the valve clearance check done at the 32,000 km service. All well and truly in spec. The mechanic said they will be good for the next 32k - no probs. My understanding is that the valve clearance check used to be at the 16k service and then every 32k thereafter. If this is the case then Triumph may have determined that the wear is less than originally forecast? The check will add several hours of labour cost to your service but money well spent if there is an issue (imo).

Thanks for the input. Plan on doing the check at 10,000 just to play it safe. This is not new territory for me we had a bonneville and did all of the maintenance work ourselves. We have not had the Rocket X for very long (about four Months) so we have a hell of a lot to learn. Most of the Motorcycle shops here in Oklahoma are really sad so we really have to bear down and learn as much as we can from all sources. Lucky am mechanically inclined and have enough sense to ask questions.

What does you owners manual say about the maintenance mileage....10,000 or 20,000?

I had a extended warranty on my bike and needed to follow the maintenance schedule so to keep everything in order. My manual shows 10k. I can't remember how much I was charged from the dealer but I do remember I was pissed. If your manual states 20k I would definitely go with that.

Owners manual says 10,000. We still have about 1,000 miles to go until required maintenance but decided to get our ducks all in a row prior to getting started. We ride about 600 miles a week so with a few days off and raining it is a good time to get busy ( School is now in session)

I ran my 11,000rpm redline K1200R BMW 50,000 metropolitan/canyon carving miles before having the first valve check/adjustment. Every tappet was within specs. With a 6000rpm redline on the R3 I can't figure why Triumph didn't simply include "hydraulic" valve lifters.

My guess would be that knowing the level of un-tapped power that was there to be had, and reckoning the mind set of the bunch of reprobates that would be attracted to the beastly things. They just figured WTF, put solids in there. It ain't like these lunatic hamsters are going to keep them stock anyway.

I put mine on the bottom of the luggage rack. If I ever get off my butt and paint the Vetter trunk that I have in the shed I am going to mount them on that.

I looked at that tool that I was talking about and realized that it is on a 1/4 drive. Checked all the catalogs and can't find anything like it listed. I reckon that it must have been something that I made years ago out of 2 different tools. Probably for adjusting antique CIS fuel injection on old Benz or Porsche cars. Who knows at this point. The memory ain't what it used to was. :banghead:
