Triumph solo seat?? Anyone tried one??

For some mounting options you can check these guys:

CycleGadgets.com - Gadget Mounts

I doubt you'll find any that don't leave at least as much as the Ram mount on the bars.

If you don't like how the Triumph accessory outlet mounts I'd check here:

Powerlet :: The 2007 Powerlet Product Catalog

These guys have a lots of options and are great to deal with. I had a cable go bad after two years and they just mailed me a new one, no questions, didn't even need to return the old one. The 'BMW style' connector is the same as the one you get from Triumph. In fact, I think they even sell the Triumph R3 connector.

Right on both screen and lights. And yes, check your parts. I too was missing a wiring harness. I've been using the shorter screen in the heat of summer and will switch back to the tall screen in cooler weather. At 6'2" I get some buffeting from the short screen but will take that for more airflow in the heat. The tall screen provides excellent protection.

GPS and radar detector are both Ram mounts. I had them on my R1200GS and just moved them over to the R3T. Triumph sells a wiring kit for the GPS. It doesn't match a Garmin plug so instead of splicing the Garmin wiring, I used the GPS wiring harness to power my radar detector and ran the GPS power plug to the accessory socket (another optional part) that mounts just below the seat/tank on the left side.

Separate question, you mention lights....I had to get a new speedo/trip on my touring b/c it was malfunctioning, now the lights are giving me trouble. I aux. light blew, replaced it no problem, then they both went out...blown fuse, new fuse no problem then both went out again! Took to dealer who said the connection to battery was loose, we tightened them, but then same problem.

I also replaced the speedo unit. Mine was due to a scratched housing during assembly. I've had no problems with my lights. Electrical issues aren't my strong suit, but I'd suspect a short of some type. Easiest thing to check is the wiring from the bulbs to the connection to the bike's wiring harness. I'd think its unlikely that its in the bike's harness, but it is British even if its not made by Lucas.

Wow, GPMAZ your touring looks great with the single seat and backrest. That picture made my decisssion easy to buy me the single seat as well.

Thanks for the info.

I'm wondering if I can mount an accessory outlet, water proof, on the right side frame cover. I don't want to permantly mount the GPS, just use it once in a while. Do you know of any quick release mounts that leave very little on the bars?

I use a tom tom(not the motorcycle one) and the suction mount it comes with sticks to the screen well, hasn't come off yet (even in the rain) and fits/removes in seconds

This works on my R3T TwistedThrottle.com : SW-MOTECH 1-inch RAM ball mount for M8 mounting points (fits most motorcycle handlebar top clamps) - CPA.00.424.111
If you've got M8 bar clamps, you're good to go!! I used a coax style quick disconnect on my GPS wiring so I could competely remove the unit from the bike.

Worst Seats Ever

I can't imagine a worse seat than either the Touring or Stock seat on the Rocket 3 Touring. I have a new 2013 and purchased the Pillion with back rest (for long haul riding). I am trying every way imaginable to modify mine so it does not kill me. I am 5'9" 190 lbs , so a fairly average build and it forces me forward and upright without enough room to move my butt back. This position in combination with the foot boards is a killer. Save your money and don't buy any seat from Triumph. If you insist that you like the seat I will gladly sell you mine. I have been riding for over 38 years and never came across any seating design that caused me so much physical pain.

I ordered the solo seat but did not like the hole for the added back rest, took it to my local upohlstery guy and he used a hot tool to rid me of the hole and then added extra memory foam to the seat, I liked the final product. Added the solo luggage rack after than, below are a few pics.

Touring Seat Rework

Just got through reworking my Rocket 3 Touring seat. I now can ride on top of the bone crushing plastic molding(in base of seat for backrest) and changed the seating profile so I am not forced to sit on my gonads. I ordered the gel inserts from (2)Ultragel #UMC-LGK for $117 USD. I used one for the large pad and cut up the other for filler. Now I can ride in comfort. The seat profile is now nearly flat and the road shocks no longer transfer directly into my spine.
Next step will be a lowering kit since the seat was already too high.
