hello first post here i have 2009 rocket had no problems so far but after reading some posts i am starting to worry about reliability, can anyone give me some confidence

Welcome Keno,
People don't post about a lack of troubles, so it's not obvious that most are trouble free.
Also, a number of the major problems occured in the earlier model years and shouldn't occur in yours.
You can also be proactive in reguards to issues that might occur. See threads on ignition switch failures/relay kits.
Overall though, you have a great bike, enjoy it.
Hope this helps,
Bill

Hi mate. My '09 has given me no problems at all. I ride it every day and, apart from 2 no starts in sub-zero temperatures (but the battery is due to be replaced), it's never let me down. I've done a few performance mods but they haven't had any adverse effect on reliability. I'm about to the light relay upgrade just to make sure and I'd say that's a must . Otherwise you should be totally confident.

We have some decent dealers in WA like JCS and usually,if something does go wrong its easy to remedy.

2005-53000 miles trouble free, had to replace the ignition switch at 43000 miles but it never left me stranded and even as the bike was over two years out of warranty Triumph supplied all the parts free of charge.
This is the most reliable bike I have ever had so enjoy your bike and ride the hell out of it. :D

Welcome to the site.

Forums like this are more than just a place to socialize. We each contribute and learn from each other. Even the smallest issue gets discussed so you may have to take that into consideration when you browse.

The forum is no different from others. I'm on the Virago forum and you'd think they were awful yet the Virago has a steller reputation for reliability. You can't kill them.

Have you ever checked out a harley forum? geez...

Again, welcome to the site. Your '09 should be very reliable. As mentioned before, the ignition switch appears to continue to be a sore point so affixing a headlight relay kit is highly recommended.

While I am chasing a problem right now, the Rocket has been great.. I have 62K miles on mine and never had a mechanical issue. I've replaced a throttle position sensor.. and I believe the problem I am having now is the primary throttle position sensor again.. but overall, it is a great bike and I've ridden all over the country on mine with no worries.

3 years 20,000 miles. No problems at all. I am going to put in the ignition bypass kit, and add some D&D's. Its been a great Bike!

While I was laying up overnight in Big Timber, MT a couple of days ago there was a Yamaha Venture, a Harley and a 27 year old 1000 cc Virago (1984)...I was really surprised to see it and talked with it's owner for about 10 minutes (as I had a 1986 1100 cc Virago...way back when (in 1987). He had just returned from a visit to Alaska and was on his way back to Iowa. Pretty impressive ride...7,000 miles so far...I wished him good luck on the rest of his trip.

As for the Rocket...as a lot have noted already the problems are going to get highlighted a lot more than the "good times". I had the two problems (oil leak from an oil line leak from the oil tank during the Nashville trip in 07, and the ignition switch) but other than that my bike rode like a champ and I had no worries when I went on my 08 Daytona, Florida / Key West, FL to Molino trip.

There are some that you wish that Triumph would directly address (ignition switch and wimpy horn) but overall the bike runs good and Triumph has "usually" addressed other problems, even out of warranty above and beyond, for the most part, what most other makes would not cover.

But I completely understand those who have reached the point of "losing faith" in their ride as it is a personal thing you have got to have confidence and sometimes if your particular bike is letting you down...it is understandable the disappointment that is sometimes expressed here.

But as others have also said...Triumph does not corner the market in this area...all makes have their problems and all will show up on their particular forums.
