Triumph ECU Unlock Pass Code Requirement

Does TuneECU bypass Triumph's ECU Passcode requirement that's needed when using triumps's diagnostic tool. If not, how you obtain the pass code.

Triumph's 2011 Service Manual for the Rocket III states, "you have three attempts to enter the correct passed code for your model into triumps's diagnostic tool. A fourth attempt, will display ECU TAMPER DETECTED and permanently lock the ECU.

tuneecu works just fine on 2011 R3R. no code needed. triumph's diagnostic tool is a different piece of software.

THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT HAS COME ON, ON MY 2009 R3T AFTER SERVICING IT (OIL, AIR FILTERS BRAKE PADS ETC) AND CHANGING THE SPARK PLUGS. MY 2007 MANUAL SAYS THE SAME AS WILDMAN FOUND - YOU NEED THE SECRET PASSCODE; 3 MISTAKES AND YOU'RE OUT. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE 2009 PASSCODES OR A WORK-AROUND SO THAT I CAN READ THE FAULT CODE AND RESET THE ECU (BECAUSE IT'S POSSIBLY A FALSE ALARM).

What softwae are you using? TunEcu?
I believe that a Triumph dealer has to input his dealer code to operate their diagnostic tool. If the bike is running fine maybe you just need to run through 3 hot/cold start cycles and the MIL will reset.

refer to the above post if your using tune ecu if you have tune boy then you should have already purchased the pass code from them. I believe what you all are referring to has to do with using the Triumph computer.

That is for the triumph datatool for theft prevention. Tuneecu and tuneboy does not have it.

Thanks, guys, but this is all new to me. I'm an old-fashioned mechanical chap with no experience of tuning or interrogating computerised engine management systems and I have no equipment/software yet to do so. I don't have a OBD/plug in and reset facility and don't want to connect one, if it might lock out the inbuilt tamper system, without first inputting a pass code.
All I'd like to do is find out if the amber warning is ligitimate or if it has lit up just because I've unplugged the harness, coil and fuel tank connections to access the spark plugs. I've seen a couple of generic diagnostic instruments on t'interweb but don't know if they'd give a 'reset' function or are 'read only'. Does tuneboy or tuneecu give the full functionality of the triumph system, without the need for a passcode? Are they readily available for quick delivery in the UK? (I'm off to Switzerland in two weeks' time)
TO Rocket: '3 hot/cold start cycles' I'm not clear what you mean by this - Start it, run it and ride it out? I take your point about shouting, and I apologise. The machine defaulted to capitals last time I was on-line, this time it's normal. Computers? I love 'em!

With TuneECU you will not cause any issues with the tamper system. It will show you the error codes and you can reset them.

Also, a generic OBDII reader can be plugged in with no harm. I've used one many times before I got TuneECU.

I think that the tamper system is in the diagnostic tool not the bikes ecu. This means that only dealers not mere mortals can hook up such a tool. On the other hand with Tune Ecu there is no code needed but you will need a special cable to hook up to your computer. They are readily available and cost about $20. The TuneEcu software is free to download and use.See post number 2 by Tom Hamburg. He is the guy if you need more info.
