2012 Rocket 111 Tourer
I have a 2012 Rocket 3 Tourer that I purchased new last year. It has 4800 miles on it. I was out for a ride today and as I left the highway and headed down the exit ramp I slowed from 60 mph to about 40 mph at which time I shifted from 5th to 4th. When I released the clutch the engine rpm's jumped way up and the bike slowed as if I slammed it down in first gear. I pulled the clutch in and shifted back up, thinking maybe I was in 2nd not third. After gearing up and while still slowing, now to about 20 mph I let go the clutch and it did it again. High engine rev and the bike slowed quickly again as if it was in first gear, I pulled in the clutch again and coasted to a stopped at the traffic light. Then I shifted down 4 times to first. The bike was in 4th and 5th when it acted this way. I didn't hear any put put put from the exhaust like normal when I gear down too quick. Just the engine RPM's going sky high ( loud whining noise ) and fast & sudden deceleration. After stopping at the light the bike was completely normal again on and off the highway.
Anyone ever experienced anything like this? The bike is under warranty. I called the dealer and they said they never heard of it before and will speak to the other mechanics tomorrow and call me back. I'm worried it may happen at high speed on the highway and result in a nasty wipeout.

Not herd of this myself but worth getting it checked out for sure, please keep us updated on this issue

The most common issue with the tranny on the newer bikes is the detent spring, doesn't sound like that is the issue here though

Be interesting to see what the dealer says.

I know this doesn't answer the question, but I added a GPro/ATre and have it mounted on the lower triple tree. I get confused to what gear I'm in sometimes and as I roll up to a light forgetting to downshift, it helps me get it back to 1st. The Rocket doesn't like to be downshifted when hardly moving. You may have a couple of issues. One being it not shifting properly, slowing you down and you struggling to get it in the right gear. This is just a thought. Not saying you are wrong. Just thinking outside the box.

Transmission issue is bolt has dropped out no gear change at the stick. can anyone give me a rundown on what I need to do please. I have a bit of an idea just need confirmation, I really want to have a go at fixing her myself. any dollars i save can go towards upgrading,

you need to be a bit specific about your shifter - is it stiff and won't budge or is it floppy?

you cant engage gears its only in 5th gear. i got home in 5th. it has no gear change because the bolt inside the case has come loose and is sitting on the sump. didnt make any sads noises just stopped changing gear..
