@Boog , i live by that rule, countless times people in my circle has told me how dangerous motorcycles are and how guilty i would feel if my kids get injured or killed riding a bike, i have tought about it myself, specially just before last 3600 mile ride, the first solo for my daughter, a few of the members here know wgat im talking about since they were watching me and her, it may sound harsh but my answer to the people is always the same, if they die ridind a motorcycle they will die doing sonething they love.
All we can do is teach them to ride responsibly and use the correct gear, that letter explains it perfectly, im sure Joey enjoyed every second of that ride and he went smiling
