If 02/2017 it is definitely a 2017 model although no different to 2018 I believe anyway. Production of the next years models with any variants starts after most Euro factories have a late summer shut down or slow down. BMW for e.g. starts the next years model production from Sept/Oct.

My 2010 Model Year (MY) Roadster was manufactured in Dec 2009 and yes Australian VINs are different from USA/Canada ones with different but similar code system I have posted about before. Aussie models share MOST characteristic with the UK/Euro system but there can be occasional very slight differences.

I do also dislike the key location but I can live with it. One thing I like about the Rockets is that the year models look very similar. I think this contributes to a timelessness of the models where ven the older ones look like the new ones. I do not like where every year or two the looks of models change that makes you used one appear outdated.
