hey fellas I’m trading my 06 rocket on a 2018 model........apparantly.

I looked on the compliance plate and it says 02/17 to me that’s a 2017 model, the dealer says it is a 2018 model that’s just how they do it, is he taking the piss or what?

Actually it’s not on mine there is no H anywhere. SMTTLC0235J844552

I remember the dealer saying to me if it has a J it is a 2018
That isn't a valid VIN. The "J" is also the 7th last character, is it is in my old 2006 model.

The 8th last number is the year/model indicator.

1=2001
2=2002
3=2003
4=2004
5=2005
6=2006
7=2007
8=2008
9=2009
A=2010
B=2011
C=2012
D=2013
E=2014
F=2015
G=2016
H=2017
J=2018

They go on a 30 year cycle, so 1988 is also a "J" year, as will 2048.

So you saying I just bought a 2005from a dealer stamped 2018 lol....I’ll read it off the bike when I pick it up

Either way it lends grist to the idea that Triumph is putting Rockets together from the spare parts bin. But that's actually pretty common, for once a model has been on sale largely unchanged, you'll have a lot of stuff made long ago that fits current production. Its the VIN that decides what it is legally. And of course new models begin production six months or so ahead of time.
