I must admit the stickiest tire I have run on my beast has been the Conti Race Attack but it was a 18inch and more of a track tire. Next set will be the commander II front and back to see if it holds up like the advertise.

Had a road commander rear on my T'bird storm didn't get to see if performed the way they say although did about 4500k's on it with out to much sign of wear, before I sold it and got the rocket. Rocket has a Metz on the rear and a Pirelli Night Dragon on the front. Haven't had any dramas so far.

I replaced the Metz with the Avon Cobra and it is 5 times the tire the Metz is. Traction, wear, cornering, the Avon does everything better.
we use the rear METZ for all our dragstrip runs and have run 8 second 1/4 mile times at close to 160 mph so we cant complain

I could not launch the bike hard at all without spinning the metz. In fact I could stab at the throttle at any slow speed and the trie would spin right away. I had fun getting sideways when I wanted to but it is a lot more fun getting the hole shot on someone. Those tires are awful. With the Cobra I can launch as hard as the bike will allow me with minimal to no tire spin, and the wheelies are great. You will be happier than a pig in sh!t with the Avon.
WE run the METZ for all the dragstip racing so ?

I have had Metzlers on a H-D Dyna and that tire wasn't any better, the ME880 was useless on the Rocket. I could break that tire loose with very little effort. I have never used their racetec tire, is that what you are using at the drag strip?

I have not got a lot of time at the drag strip on a bike I went once to grudge drag racing. It was a blast except for the worrying about phucking up the bike and how will I ride the 800 miles or so home.

Anyway did break anything my humor bone as the learning curve decreased. Any had a Mext on the bike because thats what was on the extra rim when I bought it not given to me like someone who broke the 9 second mark woth s 8.99 qtr.

I was worried about the wet box after seeing these guys do burn outs I looked at Art and told him I do not know how to do that. I do not want to know as my bike is to heavy for me to pick up :)

Anyway Art told me to drive around the wet box and line up it will freek them out. Man any tire will have traction on a surface coated with rubber (as long as there is no oil blown down before you run)

So even with all the good traction on the track with a Meztler it still sucks for longevity and price on the highways!!!!!!

Still what a blast it was thanks Art :D

I am sure the worst tire will work adequately on a prepped surface. But that isn't really what this thread is about is it? It is about someone asking everyone's advice on a good replacement street tire for a Rocket III. Based on this particular rider's information he only has a Metzler and Avon available for a replacement. The original Metzeler ME880 that was on my Rocket was the worst tire I have had on any bike for grip, traction, and longevity. The same can be said for the ME880 that was on a Dyna I owned at one point. So unless this rider is going to the drag strip every weekend I would highly recommend the AVON COBRA. Imagine what kind of reaction times, 60 foot and 1/4 mile times you can have with the Cobra if the ME880 did as good as you guys say it does.

That was my point the strip traction for any tire is good but the street is different period.
I to aggree Avon over the Metzler hands down. On the front I found running a 140 lowers the axle centerline below the rear and quickens the steering and handling. I have not got a longevity opinion on the 140 yet as it is still on the beast, but I am liking it. I wish I would have tried it first before modifying the fork spring setup so I could see or better yet feel it in stages. But the smaller front tire and adjustable compression on the ducati springs, and adjustable high speed rebound dampening has transformed the bike. Now if I can only find the time to finish the radial steering damper I suspect will transform it more.

Anyway Avon over Meztler hands down

Ya, sometimes people try to make a point when comparing apples to oranges and it is tough to connect those dots. The street and strip are two different places. I have read about the 140. It is time for a new front so I may go that route. I dont have any issues with the way it handles or the amount of effort needed for steering. I like the bike the way it is but I am always willing to try something new if it is a benefit to performance or handling.

IMO it did and there are two reasons why I chose the Avon this time over the Michelin Commander II one of course was I new what to expect from the Avon and two theirs had a slightly larger outside diameter listed and I was just trying to get the front center line a little lower then the rear which the Avon being taller still met my requirements. I do have a extra front and a modified rim (machined to a 18 inch rim) so I will shoe them with the Commander II front and back to see how they fare out.

Some people think the Bridgy is not as good but if your bike has the capability to eat tires like mine does I still have gotten the longest mileage out of the Exedra Max. I know he can not get them there but with choosing a 140 for the front does open up different tire manufacturers that he might be able to try.
