To be fair, the rocket wasn't/ isn't exactly problem free. If you want to buy a reliable motorcycle, buy a Honda.

I would love to ride one of those automatics. I'm thinking it is a 750 or so. One came by me while I was fueling, on my way back from Stearns, and it sounded so frickn smooth

Yamaha has the title for most reliable in the last article I’ve read.

Honda was#2.

Triumph was one notch above bmw, but still low on the list. Sadly!!

Many years ago - Moto Guzzi had an Auto. 2 gears - "road" and "severe hill" - the latter like the low ratio in a 4WD. They still are remarkable bikes to ride for long distances or in traffic. Most folk who bought them, sadly, tended to abuse them (changing ratios whilst moving is the biggie). And very few ever mastered "winding the torque converter up" which results in starting acceleration out of bends. Getting very rare now - or I might have one.

Every time I have to ride into Madrid centre - I realise why the automatic MAXI-Scooters have knocked other commuter bikes on the head. And that has changed the demographics of sales. As somebody who only bought their first bike as a way to get to work and back - I can see the attraction.
