One would think that you should get more than 5300 miles on a front tire. I'm done with my favorite brand of tires (metzler) for use on my R3. I'm hoping the Avon has better wear. I'm wondering if having a car tire on the rear makes the front tire wear faster. I'll have to think about that for a while.
I was surprised how soft the sidewall was on the metzler. I had the bead broke and the tire off in about 30 sec. It was the easiest tire I've ever taken off. I decided not to use the lift for a front tire change. I decided this was the easist and safest way to do it. I wish the back was as easy as the front!!
 

I think that the consensus is that yes the darkside wears out fronts quicker. I'm getting about 8-9 thousand miles out of the Dunlop D404s that I run. I just mounting my 3rd and will be sticking with them. I have just under 26 thousand on my Riken Raptor rear tire.
 
Good luck with the Avon on the front. I had an Avon Venom put on the front of my '08 Classic a year ago. At 600 miles the front end developed a horrific wobble within the 30-45 MPH range if I released pressure on the handlebars.

Took it back to the dealer. They re-balanced and test rode, wobble still there.

They said one other guy had recently had an Avon put on and had nearly the exact same experience.

I rode it until I had about 3k on it, then replaced with a Metzler. Wobble gone.

I bought my R3T March 26th and the front shakes when you let go. The front and rear are cupped. Went back to dealer and they said it was a tire pressure problem. They also said 4k miles is a lot for them to warranty the tires. Typical. On my softail I had Dunlops, Avon, Continential, and an offbrand or two. The Dunlops were the best, for mileage and wet ridding. I am replacing them (R3T) now with Dunlops in hope of a better ride, but mostly for their wet traction.
 
I've got about 18k on my Avon front tire, but its life is at end, will be changing it out soon. It does wobble like crazy hands off at 30 to 45 mph, but that was easily solved by not taking my hands off at 30 to 45 mph.
 
My Avon Cobra has 5k on it and still looks new. It's been a good tire so far, no complaints.

The two previous Metzlers were junk and cupped on the sides.
 


What Dunlops are you using?
 
Have Shinko (formerly known as Yokohama) on the front has already got 1,500klm's more than Metz both with DS the Shinko is not worn out yet. My first Metz was with a rear Metz and I got less wear than I did with second Metz (DS) the Shinko grips better in wet or dry the bike turns into corners faster, change direction faster (flip flop) and requires less counter steer also cost 2/3 of the cost of Metz what more do you want
