A friend gave me a shift light for a gift. I have tried testing it out, and it doesn't want to work. It is compatible with 1 to 12 cylinders. I hook it up to the ground of the #1 coil and I get 0 rpm. It doesn't matter what setting the shift light is on, I get 0 rpm. Any other places to hookup?

Can you give us more info......make and model of device and is this a light that tells you when to shift or is this a gear indicator????? Thanks

As Kmutt said, you need the make and model. Shift light settings for 3 cylinders are tricky, you will probably need to contact the manufacturer to get it sorted.

As far as I know, the Gi-Pro is not a shift light.

It's a auto meter Dpss level 2 shift light. Running off the negative side of the coil it won't read rpms. I am going to try it on a car tomorrow to verify it works. All you have to do to get it to work is set the ignition pulse for the correct setting, or it will read the wrong rpm. The fact it's not reading any rpm has me puzzled.

I think I might just buy a different light that has a pickup that goes around the positive wire, or even a injector wire. Those will work on anything

The ignition coils appear to be directly powered by the ecu on the rocket, or atleast that's what the wiring diagram shows. It's possible that the spark pulse signal that is being sent out is not compatible with the shift light. Who knows

Coils usually are fired by the earth, The positive is always on and when the earth is grounded it creates the spark. Your unit would also have to have a positive connection to work.
