Having not put a wrench to my Mulberry Mistress until today, I wanted to make certain that I treat her right!

That said, did Triumph engineers go out of their way to make the mounting and detachment of their screens as clumsy and obtuse as possible? It sure seems that way!

Since this was my first gander at the screen assemblies I had to familiarize myself with all the bits and pieces by consulting three different fitting instruction manuals: The Front Fixing Kit; The Roadster/Summer Windscreen Kit, and; The Flyscreen Kit. Logic dictates that these three pamphlets could have and should have been consolidated into one comprehensive pamphlet that expalins how all of Triumph's screens are to be mounted and detached.

The Summer Windscreen came attached to my bike upon delivery and I wanted to replace it today with the Flyscreen, so I removed the four coach bolts, the washer plates and dome nuts from the attachment points on the fitting kit, removed the windscreen and then proceeded to also remove the intermediate bracket from the mounting bosses.

When I started to attach the flyscreen is where a bit of confusion crept in, because the Flyscreen Kit Fitting Instructions are a bit unclear. My hesitation stems from whether or not to leave the intermediate bracket attached to the mounting bosses with the flyscreen attached or to simply attach the flyscreen to the mounting bosses directly and remove the intermediate bracket altogether. If the latter method is correct, as I suspect that it is, should the 3mm spacers that come with the fixing kit be used on the outside of the flyscreen brackets or behind the brackets and located against the mounting bosses? If my hunch is correct, I will have to dig out the removed Summer screen and reattach the intermediate bracket to its mounting assembly. A simple procedure made needlessly unclear due to odd (and too many) instruction manuals.

I do understand that this seems rather idiotic on my part, however I do not want to tighten the bolts down and leave permanent and unnecessary marks/scratches on the chrome parts should I not have the parts installed in their proper order. Seems that Triumph could have done a much better job with simple and clearcut illustrations and/or more straightforward written instructions!

The fun part is when you drop one of those bushings and it rolled off into parts unknown. I still can't find one but it is easily replaced with two SS washers of the appropriate diameter.

Well, I really didn't want to admit to doing just that, Gasket, but when I was removing the intermediate bracket and being unaware that there was one of those "spacers" behind it, naturally the first one dropped out of position and was promptly "lost". After searching all over the floor, retrieving a flashlight to peer into the darker recesses of my Mistress, fishing around inside the radiator shroud with a magnetic tipped extension wand, all to no avail, I realized the only place the little POS could be hiding was somewhere inside the radiator that I couldn't see or access. Upon removing the first side of my color-coordinated rad shroud, there the booger was! What a PITA!

It seems that you fellas are going to make me suffer! Any hints regarding the questions I posed in my OP?

Thank you, pikey! I expected my dilemma to be solved by a limey, since it was essentially created by one! Rule Britannia!!!

What did your mistress have to say about that Phil? Ha ha, hey, have you finished the installation yet? if so, have you got a pic of the flyscreen fitted?

I'm thinking about going "sans fairing" for summer, but the flyscreen option interests me? Cheers, Terry.
