I hesitate to post this because I have not seen exactly where this is myself.

But I don't remember anyone talking about this, so maybe it will help someone.

(Also maybe someone who's been looking under their tank a lot can explain the details of where and how better.)

Anyway, I was talking a bit to the service manager at the shop when I picked up my bike the other day about the upcoming x-country trip and meeting up with a lot of Rockets.........

He told me, if any of the Rocket owners have any issues that they would like addressed directly to Triumph Main, to let him know.

He was telling me that there is a little bulge on the fuel line and a clamp.

There is a very common problem of this clamp being on the wrong side of the bulge. Then after some period of vibration, during use, it can start to "suck air" and cause the bike to run lean.

It's a simple fix. Just make sure the clamp is on the right side of the bulge.

They check all the Rockets that go through their shop and have found several with that problem (mine was fine).

cheers Ogre - which side is the right side  nearest the seat or nearest the bars ?

Cheers back at 'cha :!:

I don't know.

That's why I said I hesitated posting this.

If someone doesn't chime in with the answer, then I'll find out on monday and update.

I didn't see no bulge. can you find out if its suppose to be on the "intake side" or the "exiting side" of the fuel line while you're talking to him. Also, why it'd have a bulge in the first place and why a bulge in the fuel line would have anything to do with it running rich or lean? Thanks, xhdskip

I will try and get some clarification on where exactly he was talking about.

I do know he said "fuel line" and if the clamp is not right eventually vibration can cause it so get to a point where, "it sucks air" which is turn, "causes it to run lean".

Does that make sense? Don't ask me, but that's what he said.

It doesn't make sense to me because if it's the fuel line and it's not clamped right why wouldn't it leak fuel?

It would maybe make sense if it was the airbox that he was talking about.

When it starts to suck air then it would be getting more air than it should.

That would make it run lean, (I think). :?

Please ask him to address the high/erratic idle problem...Triumph must know it is an issue.

I think it's the hose to the fuel pump, you have to remove the pump and sender unit from under the petrol tank to check that one out though, was an early issue with bikes stalling due to sucking air.

I think you're right.

But he said it's visible by just lifting the tank.

The fuel line exits the tank and goes to inlet of fuel pump

hose clamp has to be on fuel tank side of 'nub'

(some were not, which allowed the "sucking air")
