top mid front corner of the fender covers will be requiring a slight mod as they are in the way of the expansion chamber metal sleeves from the new shocks mounting eyelets also must be removed to match the mounting of the rocket other than that some elbow grease to slide the shock on the rocket posts
 
If you can mount with the reservoir at the bottom - try that first. The sprung/unsprung weight difference of an alloy shock body is NOT going to be an issue on an R3 rear .

too late !! I already modified the fender covers so the shock is mounted upright was not a big job really, and it looks really sharp. will post pics when all is done but thanks for the info..
 
my favorite airplane video..... an old canso from WW2 I flew one for half a day .


a little history
the plane ( canso also known as catalina) during WW2 could fly 12hrs non stop when flying. in the pacific it was used for observation and pilots rescue hence the two big observation bubble windows on each side in the rear it was a 3 men crew, the flight engineer was seating not in the cockpit but in the root of the center wing with feet dangling and two small windows one on each side .the plane had basically one speed for t/o landing cruising etc etc and had a bad tendency to porpoise in certain water condition upon take off . on the video one can see that one canso is not picking up a load of water as the scoops are not lowered but the video is a funny one.. \ bad publicity for outboard johnston motor though / here is an interesting quiz the concorde and the canso have one similarity absolutely same in both machines anybody take a guess ???

here we have those black and gold mounted upright, modified the side railing covers to accommodate the air reservoirs
cannot really try out the new suspension we got new snow ..again .. next ride april sometime
