Hi all, I'm having a worrying day with my bike and need help, bike was standard yesterday. Today it has trip filters, secondaries removed, O2 eliminated etc as per pig9r's brilliant 'how to' thread.. I connected tuneecu last night, read and saved existing map then began uploading new- 8% in it failed, I assume because voltage dropped below 12.5 (novice error) time for bed. This morning I connected to charger, voltage around 15 now, computer on and go... Or not! Constant 'ecu not responding' message, no recovery offered and option to recover not highlighted! I've been trying all day, many different variations and still unable to read ecu, bike dead. I'm wondering if the lead is faulty? It worked yesterday but was cheap and Chinese.. Either the lead or the ecu is my best guess, please don't be the ecu, my missus will murder me!!

Jaspz,
No worries mate,
don't sweat it.
I don't use the tune ECU but lots of guys here do,
so somebody will be along directly to straighten it and you out.
Don't worry, you didn't hurt anything.
Send Hanso a PM if somebody don't come along directly.
He's a good guy and very knowledgeable on this very thing.
he'll lead ya out of the dark on this if nobody else comes along quicker..

I thank you for your confidence, for what it's worth your reply is reassuring- I fail to believe I've damaged anything but it doesn't stop the sweating! fingers crossed..

while we're waiting on somebody that knows more than we do to arrive,
snap us some pictures of that baby, lets see her.
I'd post ya some of mine,
but I've been told I have the ugliest bike on 3 rocket sites,
not to be one to disagree with the majority,
I'd have to say mine, "is an acquired taste".
So lets see yours.:D

Mate i would say its the lead
but when i use tune ecu i always have the charger connected so it doesnt loose charge while using it for that very reason some people remove the headlight fuse to save charge but i think the roadsters need it in for the process.
My first step would be check your fuses then try a new OBDII lead

I hope so, I checked all fuses and tried with them back in but when I did have it going initially the headlight and side light fuses were out, I loaded up a second laptop to eliminate dodgy USB sockets or drivers, checked over all connections on the bike incase I loosened something.. Lead lights up with power from ecu but tuneecu just flicks red and eventually fails to connect. Is there a chance I fried the ecu?? The lead worked first time so unless it's died since, it's the bike:eek: I will upload some pics from another comp as this iPad don't want to know..

jaspz first thing always connect the bike batt to a trickle charger and your PC into the mains when using TuneECU.. now you know why..

Stupid I know but did you have the kill switch on.. ?

As said could be a faulty lead I had to buy 2 before mine worked.. has your lead got screws in the big socket end may just need a dry joint soldering.. better still can you borrow one known to work from a mate maybe?

You have to make the connection before you can recover obviously..ECU should be fine just not programmed correctly yet..

No the ecu wont be fried
might need to go through the recovery process to reinstate info on it though
the problem is caused from being dissconnected halfway through uploading a tune.
also if you cant reconnect your obdII lead may be faulty.
i would recomend searching the tune ecu site on instructions on ecu recovery.
i do remember another member on here had the same issue cant remember his name but Jim" Motolink" would remember send him a pm and ask how he solved the problem

Thanks, everything is plugged in, kill switch on etc- I am getting somewhere, having pulled the lead apart and wiggling everything, WD40 etc- I can get to recovery on occasion, it times out though and goes back to not connecting! Looks like the cable, can anyone recommend a good one?? My neighbour is a good auto electrician but on honeymoon!! Bet he has a load in his van, eBay here I come...
