Roadster down...any comments? Advice?

Hey Folks...I wanted to get back online and thank everyone for their time and advice...especially Warp. The battery is definately good and various diagnostics indicate that the stator really is the issue. After careful consideration I am going to let my dealer do the work...I hope I have chosen wisely! One thing I have learned from this experience (that of having the R3 out of service for a period of time) is the real value of having another ride in the barn. My goal is to have one by next spring...nothing of course could replace the feeling of riding the Rocket...but from what catagory do I choose from? Sport bike? Dual-sport thingamajigys? Touring?

Part of me would like to stick to my marque...I like Triumphs. On the other hand, when I go down to the dealer and sling my leg over that KTM superduke....hhhhmmmm this could be fun! They also have in stock this BMW "R Nine T" -that is great looking bike. I should come up with a touring rig as my new girl likes riding...I could, through accessories make a reasonable touring bike out of my Roadster-though I sure do like the way it looks now! Thanks again...I dont post much but I read most every thread almost every day and get a great deal out of all the discussions...Doug

Get an earlier model Classic or Standard. Easier on the wallet, more comfortable riding position for long distance IMHO, and easily dressable to make a tourer out of

If I were located where you are, a Tiger 800 or 1200 Explorer would be my choice for a second steed. Most likely the 800 to have as a fun bike.

I have a KTM SM-T alongside the Rocket, a nice contrast I think...where you are maybe a KTM Adventure might be more interesting?

The Explorer 1200 is a nice bike, very smooth and speedy, plus no chain etc but there is something raw about the KTMs which make them real fun. I test rode the explorer and liked it a lot but couldn't go with a part-ex in the future as I would be missing that something that the KTM has. Just wish KTM made shaft drives but that will never happen lol

Yep I am thinking a third Triumph and the explorer is definitely on the list!!!! I would like a 09 Rocket as it has the good ECU and floor board location as Morris explained above. I am not against a Roadster but it would have to have some paint work to spruce up the everyone has black routine and I would adapt the floor boards to it so she is all around comfortable.

The rear roadster pegs do not do it for me. Sure short distance riding but when it comes to the long riding boards all the way for me. I personally think Triumph should offer all three styles of peg rails for the bike and put some **** color back into them black is just black when everyone has them.

My advice is to do it yourself. As long as you are reasonably mechanically inclined the folks on here will help out with advice and in my experience are a better resource than your dealer anyway. There are at least three folks on here that have had their engine in various stages of disassembly and can probably walk you through it. Fred (Rocket Scientist) just did it, Patrick (Albertaduke) is currently in the process, and Scott (Warp9.9) has probably broken and replaced more parts than anybody on this forum. I would bet they will all pitch in to help you get it done

another highly experienced rider, Jake shaw in P.E.I also dropped the engine and put it back and made special tools for the swing arm castellated nut .
