Boo hoo - my bike tipped over today. My wifes car was where I normally
park it to warm it up as I get my helmet on and close the garage door
so I parked it on a slight decline. With the heat, the kick stand sunk into
the pavement and you know the rest of the story.

In my opinion Rivco Engine Guards suck :!:

They hardly broke the fall and it came down so hard the handle bars dinged my tank.

The engine guards did little to stop the shifter from bending in and causing the adjustment assembly to ding the motor.

The shifter was bent 45 degrees and was barely usable. I now have a mar
on the shifter bar from bending it back.

I also have scratches on the tank, tank emblem, clutch lever, handle
bar end cap, bear claw, foot peg, and many on the Jardine pipes.

Many of the smaller scratches should buff out and not be too noticable but the ding in the engine and tank should not have happened at all or at
least should have been less severe from an 80 degree tip over...

All the bars seem to do well is protect the radiator cover and they
are better than nothing at all for engine protection.

I was already concerned over the lack of leg space protection provided by
these guards and will be contacting them shortly to discuss improvements.

If they don't redesign them and swap mine out I will probably replace them with the newer Triumph ones as they appear like they would better
protect the rider, shifter and brake pedal.

Has anyone else experienced this level of damage with these engine guards after a minor tip over
:?:

rivco bars

although I havn't put this scooter down, I know from previous experience that the rivco bars would do little to stop damage if the scooter fell over & I stated that in earlier posts. They are contoured to look good, but achieve little in the way of protection for the tank or levers. I have removed mine not for the reason stated but because I am fitting forward controls and the rivco bars will not fit with what I am doing. Getting bars made to do the job of protecting the tank and levers is not much of a problem and would not cost any more than the rivco or Triumph bars. you only need to design them and get a muffler or welding shop to bend them to your specifications which I have done on previous occasions.

I take full responsibility for parking where I did. After 30+ years riding I should have
known better.

As stated, the Rivco bars are better than nothing at all and they will protect many
things and prevent or reduce additional damage.

I also have the risers and there is 1.5 inches of clearance from the lowest part of the
handle bar to the tank. The fall appears to have
simultaniously pushed the tank up slightly and flexed the handle bar down just enough
to whack a small dent from the nut under the clutch lever bracket.

If they were a little wider and angled to help the bike roll rather than flop I think we would
have a much better product. I've contacted Rivco to see if they have any plans to do this.

I went down hard 20+ years ago on a Yamaha fixed with just the right sized crash bars and
it slid on the crash bar, handle bar, and muffler leaving plenty of room for my leg. I only
bruised my knee and elbow from the initial impact before tucking them in for the long slide.

All I want is this same type of protection on the R3.

I have the new Triumph bars and they don't seem too sturdy to me - better than nothing, but I can move them (if I give them a knock with my fist they will flex - my other bars: Cobra on the 750 and Paladin on the 1300 do not give at all). The Triumph bars look good but I am concerned about their ability to do the job
