when I open the throttle there is a deep reverberation as the engine loads up. I didn't feel this on the demo bike but the one I've bought has got the CAT delete, and I don't know whether the noise is a reverberation coming from what is (presumably) an empty box, or whether in fact it's a deep vibration perhaps coming from the drive train.
Any thoughts? (the bike is a couple of weeks old and has done about 1100 miles, and made this noise from new)

Is it running ok? If you are worried get it checked by your dealer.

That could be anything Mike, to include loose exhaust bolts or flanges. I had that on my Harley at one time and that's what it was. It is of course difficult to tell from your description. It should all be under warranty though, whatever it is.

My bike (08 standard 2000 miles)has always done this, I thought that it was normal, previous rides have all been UJM's that were always very smooth; this reverberation/harshness is something that I believed was normal for the R3.

What are your impressions of the R3 wrt the smoothness or otherwise of the bike, unfortunately living in a rural town does not enable me to compare what it should be like; interested to find out the impressions of others on this site.

Also, in it's standard form my opinion is that most of my previous rides (ZZR1200. CB1300 and GSX1400) would have had no trouble with leaving the R3 in their wake, do others believe that would be the case or am I just dreaming!

Regards

Peter

I guess that's my question Peter - is the reverberation normal? I'm going on a rideout with half a dozen other Rocket 3s today, two of which have had drive train problems. I will let them ride my bike and give an opinion. I think it is normal just different from smaller multicylinder engines.
I had a Honda VF1000F and I think the Rocket and the VF were probably on a par for off-the line acceleration. Dunno about top speed and I'm not bothered about finding out. I still have a Kawasaki Versys and that is a radically different bike to the R3. A race replica would be an equal contrast but these days I prefer no pain in the wrists .... which is ironic because I'm still waiting for my flyscreen for the R3 which means my wrists are aching from hanging on :D

Mike,
If the reverberation goes away if you drop a gear then mine is the same. It is most noticeable if you really load the engine at a lowish speed in a high gear. I also first noticed it after I fitted the cat delete and had the re-tune. I guess it is normal and not a worry.

Jeez Mike, you're not going out with Taz and the northern crewe are you mate? Whatever you do don't lend your bike to Taz, the man's a fruit cake  but Di is lovely.
If it's Leigh and the SYDs you're in even more trouble.

Seriously though, anyone who's had one for a while will be able to tell you if it's normal within a coupla miles.
